Daily Inspiration: Meet Vapid Haus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vapid Haus

Hi Vapid, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Many of us are music business students at the University of Colorado Denver, with a few exceptions. We met in classes, and then brought friends from other courses of study into the mix. We set out with the intention of starting the University’s first student led radio station on campus, which we accomplished over the course of a year and a half of huge wins and even more obstacles. The experience of starting Denver Lynx Radio has been integral to the development of our skills and network as a team. With team members graduating, or nearing that next chapter, we decided to continue utilizing the skills and network we gained with Denver Lynx Radio. That’s been the beginning of Vapid Haus. While we are utilizing our college radio experience, this project ultimately has a different goal. Vapid Haus is a full profile promotion service. We pair with musicians. What you have, we will build. We provide photography services for local and touring musicians, promotional interviews, full artist profiles, media & content creation, and booking and management consultation with our team. Connecting the listeners with Denver’s local music scene has been life changing for us, and we’re aiming to expand that connection.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In a word – no! We are lucky to have experienced working as a team before, so we have a strong foundation to work everything out on. While that gives us a bit of a head start in working out the kinks, we’re all also transitioning in our personal lives. Just finding the time to meet while our team is balancing school, new jobs, post-grad and the last moments of university has been our biggest struggle so far. Vapid Haus is a huge priority for everyone, so we have managed to meet as a team, even if it has to be via zoom, as regularly as we can. Prioritizing time as a team to do some of the more creative, fun aspects of Vapid Haus all together in person has been helpful to de-stress with the amount of work that goes into this project, but wow, it has been difficult to coordinate times that work for everyone! We definitely wish we could dedicate more time to hanging out doing the fun stuff. On top of that, we are transitioning Denver Lynx Radio to the next generation of students and passing on our roles in our first successful project together, which is tough.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Vapid Haus specializes in connecting local musicians with listeners. Our social media platforms are a huge aspect of these, as that’s where photography, videography, journalism, and promotions content live, but we are in the process of developing in person events for Denver’s local music community as well. The logistics of this have been a huge project for us over this summer, and we aim to launch this aspect of Vapid Haus in the fall of this year. From DJ nights to mini music fests, we want to create spaces for music lovers to meet in real life. We have been able to meet so many creatives in Denver through our work, and we want to be able to bring them all together. This ties in with the aspect that we are most proud of in our work, as we see the local music scene as a hub for networking and personal connections. In our past work with Denver Lynx Radio, we were able to bring this social aspect to fruition. We are quite proud of the skills we have gained in community building within an industry that can be overwhelming and competitive. Most of us moved here from out of state, and we have Denver’s music community to thank for the friendships we have fostered. With creativity often becoming an isolated craft in the digital age, we feel it is important to bolster community online and outside.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Denver definitely occupies an interesting space in the music world, which has been fun for us. Tons of creatives move here from smaller, Midwestern cities, which brings every genre to Denver. Geographically, we have the benefit of being the only major metropolitan area for awhile, which means pretty much every bigger touring act stops here, too. It is a great place to find new music, and easily access everyone’s larger favorites. There is certainly no shortage of shows for pretty much every night, weekend or weekday. Not to mention, some of the best venues in the country, varying heavily in sizes. Red Rocks is the obvious pick, but places like the Ogden and Bluebird hold a huge place in the heart of the music scene here too, and the variance between venues keeps every show unique. Geography also has to do with our least favorite part of music in Denver, though, because it does make it a bit more difficult for smaller touring acts to make their way out here. Our team is from all over, so we have favorite “local” artists from all over that we would love to see and cover here. With not a whole lot of options for other major spots they can hit nearby, Denver is often overlooked for some of our smaller indie favorites.
