We recently had the chance to connect with Dr. Grant Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Grant, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is the most important, hands down. Without integrity, there is no true version of yourself. Constantly shifting who you are to meet the expectations of others or acting outside of yourself to appease other people is the surest way to continue feeling overwhelmed in our society these days. What I love about integrity is it is one’s true compass for moving through life, and without that, we are all destined to be lost.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Sure. My name is Dr. Grant Smith and I’m the Clinic Director of Kinetic Centre Denver. We are an international 3D Functional Movement company and the industry leaders in a technology called Kinetisense, which is a full 3D Functional Movement software, that tracks the entire body, in all planes of movement, through any movement pattern that a person might do. From helping people who are just starting on their health journey, to the professional athletes we work with, we use 3D objective data to inform all treatments, rehab, and exercises that we do with our patients, ensuring that we are addressing the true root cause of dysfunction and not simply the symptoms.
As a Denver native, I’m thrilled to serve the community I grew up and and help the people of Colorado begin to take a whole new level of ownership over their lives and health journeys. Bringing objective data into the world of chiropractic, manual therapy, rehab, and exercise is something I’m very passionate about and something that I love about what I get to do everyday.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
For me, it was the process of having friends pass away back in college. It was already a tough situation to navigate, but the fact that it kept happening to me was different from what my friend group as experiencing, as I started losing friends from different walks of life. That process opened up to me that truth that no matter who you have in your life, there is always an element to life that we have to walk alone.
That is one of the most impactful things I’ve felt from my journey as a doctor. I can perform the treatments in my office, give patients the rehab exercises to perform, and give them all the other pieces of knowledge I’ve accrued over the years, but the reality is that no one will care more about your health and wellness than you do, and ultimately it is up to you to solve the pains and aches of your body (up to a point, of course). That is why I love spending all the time I do educating people, helping them see their bodies and movement patterns in different ways, and trying to open up as many doors of awareness for my patients that I possibly can. I want all my patients to succeed in reaching their goals, but they are the ones driving the car, I’m just the co-pilot.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The limits of how hard I could push myself and the limits of what I can pick myself back up from. I see success as merely the byproduct of someone who refused to give into the struggles, and continued to fight their way out. The process of becoming more, becoming a better version of yourself is much more rewarding than any of the success you experience afterwards. That inner knowledge creates an unshakeable confidence in yourself and your ability to navigate this crazy world of ours.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I believe in showing up the same way, with every person I meet. I’m definitely one of those people, where what you see is what you get.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
Running a business has a way of making you feel always out of your depth to some degree. There are always new challenges, new skill sets, and new mindsets that you have to adopt through each stage of building and growing a business. It’s one of my favorite endeavors of my life though. The daily shifts, and new weekly challenges are what really drive growth and development of my person and character.
