Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Naylor.
Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started doing hair five years ago. I was living in the mountains after college and had no idea what I wanted to do. I was a ski bum working at a small ski resort and also waiting tables at two different restaurants in town. I loved it! But then someone told me that in order to live in the mountains, you either have three homes or three jobs, and I thought, I am forever going to be the girl with three jobs. That’s when I decided I wanted to go back to school to do hair. I registered and was a few weeks from starting when I backed out and decided I couldn’t leave the mountains just yet. I stayed for one more year and enjoyed the ski bum life. I finally re-registered for hair school and moved to Denver in 2016. Best decision I ever made. I got a job at a salon in town and learned from some of the best! They taught me everything, from color to cutting to hair extensions. Last year in the middle of the pandemic, two of my coworkers and I decided to leave the salon and start our own space called ASH Hair Studio. We are now all running our own small businesses and loving it!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I am grateful for all the decisions I made to get me here. I remember getting done with school and getting told that I didn’t make enough money yet to pay my monthly student loans. I was in full panic mode! I am a worry-wart by nature but everything worked out exactly how it was supposed to. I got a job right out of school and got to work under an amazing mentor who is now one of my great friends- shoutout to Heather Shea! I loved my coworkers at my old salon and I a creature of habit, so it was a huge leap of faith to go out on my own and work for myself. A lot of panics, a pandemic, but also supportive coworkers, clients, friends and family have pushed me to thrive and run my own business and be very grateful!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I run a small business doing hair out of a studio in the Sola Salon in Cherry Creek. I specialize in blondes, balayage, lived-in color, and extensions. I am very proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients. I want everyone to feel beautiful, relaxed, and like they have another friend when they’re in the salon with me.
