Exploring Life & Business with Amelia Zeve and Jamie Lopez of The Actors Group

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Zeve and Jamie Lopez.

Amelia Zeve and Jamie Lopez

Hi Amelia and Jamie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
The Actors Group was founded in Seattle in 1986 by Tish Lopez based on the idea that a successful talent agency only needs to be great at two things. First, be a knowledgeable, high-touch resource for our clients. Second, deliver responsive, complete service to our buyers.

As the media landscape has evolved and the needs of the people we work with have changed, The Actors Group has expanded beyond its on-camera roots to become a leader in gaming credits, grow our voicework portfolio, and develop a global network of creator and live event talent, including corporate training professionals, auctioneers, and emcees.

What hasn’t changed is our belief in Tish’s founding idea. And our commitment to representing only the best talent and making it as easy as possible to work with them. As an agency, we’ve been around for 37 years, and our alumni have gone on to do amazing things- some names you may recognize include Jeff Probst, Bill Nye, Paul Giamatti, Anna Ferris, Joel McHale, and many more!

We are committed to representing some of the best names in a variety of fields, from live talent to content creators. Our Influencer Division is an identity-forward agency that represents names like content creator Claire Holt (who’s Denver-based!) or Survivor winner Parvati Shallow, and we keep growing every day. The future is bright for The Actors Group, and we’re so excited to see where we go.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Jamie: Yes! The road has been smooth, which isn’t the same thing as easy.

We’re constantly evolving our services to meet the needs of our customers. What we sell and how we sell it look pretty different than when we began 37 years ago. But our approach remains the same: do good work, show up, and play nice in the sandbox—three simple guideposts that have helped us stay profitable for decades.

Amelia: I think the thing that’s been the most difficult is that talent management is already such a crowded space, so defining your niche and why you’re a value add to your clients is definitely daunting.

That being said, daunting doesn’t mean difficult – it’s actually been amazing seeing the way people respond to a genuinely identity-forward agency doing the things they say they’re going to do. It sometimes can be rare in this industry, but things really started taking off when both buyers and clients realized that we really show up in the ways we say we’re going to.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Jamie: Consistency. Doing what we say we’re going to do when we say we’re going to do it. Well, that and having a highly marketable stable of talent.

Amelia: Agree on the talent! We have the most incredible creators that we work with, and it’s just a joy to get to be in the community with them as well as help market them on such amazing tasks. You can see more about who we represent here!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Amelia: I’ll answer this one for both me and Jamie, as we’re pretty similar in terms of personality. We were both social, dedicated and always excited about trying new things. We also both have (and always have had) a vast array of amazing friends, who we put a lot of effort into maintaining relationships with – and I think that that perspective makes us both dedicated agents.

The first and most important role of a talent agent is to be genuinely connected with your talent and understand what makes them special, and marketable. Jamie and I are also both inherently playful, lighthearted people which makes the oft-exhausting work of building out an influencer division in a deeply-crowded space light and fun work!
