Today we’d like to introduce you to Annalies Boerendonk.
Hi Annalies, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Klein House after getting into a car accident because of a drunk driver and I was suddenly was stuck at home 24/7. Klein House started as a food and home blog so I could fill up my time and still have a sense of purpose while I healed from my injuries and learned to manage my pain. From building my blog, I had taught myself all the different skills to build a smooth-running website. It was a last-ditch effort to try to keep myself in my house.
Sadly business was so slow in the beginning I lost my house, but I didn’t give up with my business. I would run my business on top of my other jobs as an administrative assistant, bartender, a barn hand, and even as a wrangler on a horse ranch. Through those second jobs, I have met people that have helped grow my business and every day the word about what I do is spread.
My goal is not to get rich from my business; my goal is to grow a strong community and help people showcase the great things they do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road running Klein House. Like anything worthwhile, it takes time to build a strong foundation that can carry you to new heights. Losing my house from not being able to work and my client base being so small was a big hit for me. It was a taste of independence and the life that I craved so badly and I lost it. But, I remind myself that everything happens for a reason and maybe one day I will get there again. Right now, I have the gift of meeting plenty of new people and establishing relationships within my community.
As you know, we’re big fans of Klein House. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Running a business takes a lot, but you are not on your own with everything. Your business can have a beautiful website, an organized and effective schedule, booming social media accounts, and great blog posts- all without you having to lift a finger. I strive to give business owners the time to focus on what they love to do and their business itself, not all the digital details. I price all of my services below the industry average because my goal isn’t to get rich- it is to help my community. I want to establish relationships with the strong business owners and creatives of my community, and maybe one day expand that across the country.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The past year of my life, I have met some of the most interesting and supportive people I’ve ever been around. I have become a part of so many different communities and established strong friendships that might just last a lifetime. My family of course has been some of the biggest cheerleaders I have and spread the word about what I do as much as they can.
