Today we’d like to introduce you to Annemarie Sampson.
Hi Annemarie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My personal story and experiences surrounding body image, disordered exercise, and food habits, along with my education and work experience, put me in a unique position to listen and work with clients.
I love high school and college athletics, I am more at home in the mountains than on the beach, and protecting this beautiful planet is my passion. I am a better cook than a gardener – but do both. I prefer winter to summer – but love fall and spring. Pizza is my favorite food, I love music, and I dance like no one is watching!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Wellness Industry has grown up before our eyes over the past 4 decades. Through the onset of influencers and social media, the increase of celebrities (think Kim Kardashian and Beyond Meat) and everyday people sharing their “fitness and diet” tips has created a toxic environment that can lead to mental and physical problems.
A toxic wellness environment leads to a limited view of what is considered holistically well. Believing that working out and pushing yourself takes precedence over listening to your body, thinking that the only purpose of working out is to lose weight, and cultivating inaccessible fitness spaces. Convincing yourself that a certain “diet” will solve all of your problems, helps you “look” the perfect way.
it is important to unpack how the wellness industry has evolved… and how it has come to label certain bodies as “good” and “bad”. It’s important to understand that everyBODY is acceptable and deserving of love!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I work with clients to achieve physical, mental, emotional, and social health — regardless of environment, economic status, weight, or current health condition. I begin my work with clients to understand their values. When we know our values, our habits are rooted in purpose and passion.
Our values could be related to our personal health, career aspirations, relationships, or any other long-term project that requires thought, effort, and dedication. When our actions align with our values, we are much more likely to succeed.
The goal — SUSTAINABLE WELLness. Together, we can continue to have difficult conversations and invite sustainable living practices into our communities – one positive change at a time!
What does success mean to you?
Leaving people in a better place than where I found them.
