Today, we’d like to introduce you to Chelsi Katz.

Hi Chelsi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been in the cannabis industry since 2012, starting in Florida, working with FLCAN to get the Florida Right to Medical Marijuana Initiative, Amendment 2, onto the 2014 ballot.

While we successfully got it onto the ballot, and it was voted 57.62% in favor, it failed to pass due to a supermajority rule. My now-husband and I decided it was time to relocate to a state where cannabis was legal, and we moved to Colorado in 2015.

From 2015 to 2019, I worked with Lightshade as their Manager of Marketing & CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). This is where I found my voice as a girl in the corporate world. I learned to trust my gut, hone in on my skill set and develop my implementation strategy all while making wonderful friendships. 2019 I joined Irie Weddings & Events, and by 2021, I would have become a co-owner.

Irie Weddings & Events provides luxury cannabis bartending services for weddings and private events, making each event special and tailored to our client’s wishes. Since 2014, we’ve been dedicated to offering professional, fully insured weed bar services, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience for every guest.

The journey hasn’t been without its challenges, but the commitment to changing the public view on cannabis and creating ways for it to be consumed safely and legally have been driving forces. Today, Irie Weddings & Events is recognized as an industry founder and is growing faster than ever, with new branches coming soon!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely been a journey with its fair share of bumps! One of the biggest hurdles was overcoming the stigma associated with cannabis. Even as laws changed, public perception lagged, making acceptance difficult. The top concern for venues is liability.

Navigating the regulatory landscape was another major challenge. The ever-changing laws and compliance requirements meant we had to constantly adapt and stay vigilant to ensure our services were fully compliant.

Breaking into a male-dominated field and earning respect took time and perseverance. As a woman in the cannabis industry and often the youngest in the room, challenges have always been inevitable.

While the road has not been smooth, seeing the results of our hard work is worth every learning lesson. The key is to turn obstacles into opportunities!
