Exploring Life & Business with Cynthia Moos of Best French Forever

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Moos.

Cynthia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Cynthia, I was born and raised in a small village of Provence. I was 20 years old when I first took a plane, and I think that’s when I caught the travel bug.

I met my American husband during a study-abroad program and after many years of a long-distance relationship, I took the leap and moved to the U.S. to be with him.

While I dreamed of big cities and urban living in my 20s, it is only once I moved away from my native Provence that I realized the chance I had to grow up there. Provence is truly a magical place of serenity and abundance where slow life is the way of life.

Today I am happy to continue staying close to my roots through my subscription box business, Best French Forever. I meet artisans and entrepreneurs of the South of France and introduce their art and handcrafted gems to French lovers here in North America. Being a bridge between these two cultures is the best job I could have ever dreamed of.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a company when you never went to business school or don’t come from a family of entrepreneurs is a bit intimidating. While the road is made of many obstacles (mainly things you don’t know about and will discover as you go), the biggest challenge is oftentimes you and that inner voice that tells you it’s too hard or you can’t do it.

But once you start believing in yourself and that you can do whatever you’ve set to accomplish, nothing can stop you.

When asked what my biggest win is so far in this journey, I like to say it’s the sum of all the challenges I’ve faced and overcome since I’ve started last year. I’ve had so much to learn in terms of import, customs regulations, logistics, taxes… fields I’m not passionate about, yet I had to manage. The win is in looking back and seeing where I started and the progress I’ve made.

And the lesson is: don’t be afraid to begin, even if you don’t have all the resources or answers. It will come as you take the first step and the next. And the next.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Best French Forever is a subscription box and special gift company of unique, high-quality, and earth-friendly products made in Provence.

Our mission is to bring our beloved region and its art de vivre into the hands of French lovers here in the U.S. and tell the stories of fine artisans of the South of France, all through an experience of the senses that takes you there from the comfort of your home.

Through this business, I invite women to connect to a country and culture they love and remind them of the importance of self-care. I also support French artisans and their generations-old savoir-faire, by sharing their stories and offering their high-quality products.

As the founder and a Provence native, I take care of sourcing the products and curating the boxes myself to guarantee the most authentic experience.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The subscription box industry has definitely seen an uptick during Covid, from fun games to play at home or care packages to ship to friends. Best French Forever was created to allow people to “travel” from the comfort of home while their travel plans might have been postponed.

As we are slowly adjusting to a new normal and things start to open up again, I think there is still a demand in discovering new products you wouldn’t know otherwise. One of our next steps is to develop our site so that people can compose their own box. Customization is key and we hope we can get there by next year. We are also starting a corporate gift service and offering custom wedding gifts as well. We want to become a destination for French lifestyle and self-care for women (à la française).
