Exploring Life & Business with Cynthia Sass of Tru Skincare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Sass.

Cynthia Sass

Hi Cynthia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Having a child born with a skin condition so severe that she would scratch herself until bleeding sent me on my journey to help others struggling to feel good in their skin. What I learned along the way while trying to heal my daughter’s condition became my passion, and fueled my decision to go back to school.

After a tiring search to find a holistic esthetics school that met my needs, I found “the Concentric Healing Institute“ in Boulder, Colorado. My search ended upon meeting with the instructor/owner with a resounding “Ah, yes”, and 12 months later, I took my board exams to become a practicing holistic esthetician. That same month, I opened my own practice, Tru Skincare Studio.

The opportunity to work hands-on with virtually every skin type and condition became the most rewarding and fulfilling career opportunity beyond my wildest dreams. As time went on, it gnawed at me the lack of products in the marketplace that met my clients’ needs, and in turn, my expectations.

Being all too familiar with hitting dead-ends while looking for a solution to meet my daughter’s needs (to the point of growing a kombucha SCOBY in my closet, long before it was heard of), I set out on working with a chemist to make what I saw was missing.  Several months later and on the dawning of a pandemic shutdown, the first Skin by Tru product was born with the name “Tru Perfection Balm“. Four years and six products later, the line is what I can call (for now) “complete“.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, the pandemic was a rough time as a service provider. I had to close my door until I could be vaccinated, and financially, it was a big setback. Having family and friends to help, as well as knowing that I was far from alone in the struggle was helpful. It was a slow comeback, but having a truly wonderful and loyal following there when I re-opened was such a beautiful thing. I was and still am so incredibly grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I founded Tru Skincare with the mission of helping women feel beautiful in their skin through the approach of great skin from the inside and out. I specialize in healthy skin through customized, tailored treatments that are different for every individual. In my practice, I work hands-on with people wanting to see real change in their skin. We work together to uncover the cause of skin issues and develop holistic action plans to solve them.

Every treatment changes based on the client’s skin at that moment in time. Think of me as a personal trainer for skin, taking a deep dive to truly improve the overall health and appearance of skin, focusing on the entire body, not just the outer layer. I take great pride in having established a brand grounded in integrity and transparency, dedicated to empowering women to make informed and mindful choices for their skin.

What makes my business different is the personalized, one-on-one relationship that’s there for my clients and the continual support in helping them meet their skincare goals throughout the changing seasons of their lives. And then, there’s my pride and joy – my Skin by Tru product line. My uncompromising commitment to my clients and my values led me to develop the Skin by Tru line of products because nothing else met my high standards of a clean, effective approach to beauty.

The Skin by Tru line is the result of decades of experience as an esthetician and dedication to those women seeking proven, high-integrity skincare. I put these products to the test on a daily basis in my Tru Skincare studio with clients of all skin types. Whether it’s a service in my studio or using the products at home, my goal is always the same: honest, visible results. These values, my values, are what Skin by Tru is made of.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Standing by my values and tuning into my gut is what’s behind my business’ success. Serving my clients with the intention of truly helping them is why I love what I do today just as much as I did when I started 14 years ago. When your heart’s all-in with what you’re doing for people, then you can’t help but succeed. Nothing in your career can fill you more.
