Exploring Life & Business with Dev Dior of Skin by Dev

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dev Dior.

Hi Dev, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a poor household, and generational poverty and trauma but I overcame what most have never seen or experienced before. It was difficult for my family and me but I always knew I was destined for something great.

I had to take circumstances into my own hands, and I could’ve easily broken down and become another statistic or another lost soul. I really want people to know that no matter where you’ve been, or what you’ve gone through, you can be whoever you want to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I grew up with an abusive father for the majority of my life and both of my parents were addicted to drugs. My mother was in and out of jail my whole life which left me lost. My older sister saved my life and gave me a chance to experience real love although we struggled together she was my home. I lost my mother in 2018 to cancer while she was incarcerated in Denver for over 9 years.

She is literally the reason why I’m so strong and perseverant today. She taught me to never give up and to always keep swinging, and always hustle hard for what I want. I then lost my sister to a fentanyl overdose in 2019, she was my rock. After she passed away, I kind of went into straight hustle mode because I had no choice but to move out on my own after her passing.

I worked plenty of jobs, losing myself and feeling like I was wasting my precious time doing for others what I could be doing for myself. I knew I wanted to create a legacy by doing what I loved and being the empowered boss that I’ve always been.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I launched SkinbyDev in 2021, but it was a very soft launch. I was in over my head and didn’t understand how important it was to research and study the field you wanted to pursue. I ended up having burnout and stopping my business from being overwhelmed and discouraged.

I took over a year to rebrand everything from the quality of the product to the website to packaging and relaunched in March 2023 with way better knowledge of social media presence and marketing due to my doing influencer and ambassador work as well.

Skin by Dev is an affordable, luxury skincare brand made for those with sensitive skin. All of our products are vegan, all-natural, and cruelty-free as well as effective. People deserve to have clear skin without breaking the bank.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Denver has a lot of people from a lot of different places and walks of life, as well as a chance for opportunity.

I wish Denver had more of a sense of community when it comes to the youth and young adults.
