Exploring Life & Business with Edgar (EQ) Quiroz of La Familia Music Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar (EQ) Quiroz.

Edgar (EQ), we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Edgar Quiroz or better known as EQ. I’m the founder/president of La Familia Music Group, LLC. I started the label in 2014 and have been slowly growing ever since. I originally started the business to help protect my music. After working with a couple of record labels, I learned the benefits to doing things independently. Yes, it may be a harder and longer process but well worth it at the end. I then started organizing events and offering performing opportunities to local artists. I continued to work hard every day until I was able to open up my recording studio in Montrose, CO. We are now offering studio time to the public, as well as providing music production classes to the youth! We continue to grow and help develop other artists!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been the smoothest and sometimes it feels like we’re approaching a dead end but we continue to find a way. Some of the obstacles we came across are finding equally motivated people to be part of the team. A lot of artists want the fame but don’t understand the type of work that is needed to achieve the goals. Of course, there is the financial hurdles we have to find a way around. Also, coming out of Western Colorado, there isn’t too many resources for artist. We’re limited to venues, recording studios, and people to grow with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
La Familia Music Group is an independent record label out of Western Colorado. We specialize in helping artists get to the next level in their careers. We have a professional recording studio, a team of media personnel to help bring projects to life. Also, we promote local businesses on our podcast “What’s Dope in the Slope” as well as organize events such as DIVERSIFY, our art & music show as well as CARMILIA Fest which is our car & music festival, plus many more events. Our focus is to provide resources and opportunities to up-and-coming artists. This is what I believe sets us apart. I’d like to look at LFMG as the pioneer to help grow the music community in Western Colorado.

We’re most proud of our Music Production classes we started offering the youth. This is such an important new project to me because I know the importance of music and how it can change lives. We’re not only providing a safe and creative space but also a healthy outlet for the youth to express themselves.

Our brand is committed to our community and offering opportunities to grow!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
We’d like to give credit to all the supporters and people who continue to believe in us and our movement! This wouldn’t be possible without the LFMG team putting in the hard work and the organization and people making this journey a bit easier.
