Exploring Life & Business with Grace Schwemmer of Power in Movement Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Schwemmer.

Hi Grace, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Starting a business at the height of COVID might sound crazy—but for me, it was exactly what I needed. When Denver went into lockdown for a month, I finally had time to take a hard look at my career. I was overworked, burnt out, and underpaid—despite seeing more patients than anyone else in the clinic. Worst of all, I didn’t feel like I was truly helping people. I knew something had to change.
So, I spent that entire month researching how to start a business—everything from business licensing to branding to clinical systems. By the time the city reopened, I was ready. I walked back into the clinic, handed in my resignation, and took a leap of faith.
I reached out to Chase Knighton, owner of Driven to Conquer and Mile High CrossFit, to see if he might be open to letting me start my business inside his gym. He gave me the opportunity I needed, and from there, things took off. I worked long hours, invested in as much continuing education as I could handle, and poured myself into every patient I saw.
It was hard work—probably more than before—but it didn’t feel like it. For the first time, I was spending a full hour with each patient, helping them not just recover, but truly perform. Seeing members back in the gym months or even years later—hitting PRs, competing again, or hiking pain-free on the weekends—reminds me every day why I do what I do.
Two years into running my practice, my mentor, Andy Chen, invited me to join his education company, Moment Education, as an instructor. I was honored to say yes. I started small—leading accessory Zoom calls—then gradually grew into larger teaching roles, helping develop course content and eventually teaching the advanced mentorship group. Today, I help lead seminars across the U.S., and together, we’ve mentored over 400 physical therapists and coaches. Knowing that those 400 professionals are now out there providing higher-quality care to their clients is incredibly fulfilling.
Last year marked another big milestone: I hired my first employee. It was a huge step—trusting someone else with the business I’d built from the ground up—but it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Watching him grow as a clinician and embody the vision of Power in Movement has been deeply rewarding.
Since then, we’ve expanded to three locations—DTC, South Broadway, and West Highlands—and recently welcomed a second provider to the team. My goal has always been simple: to provide a better physical therapy experience for active individuals. One that goes beyond pain relief—one that empowers people to get back to doing what they love, and do it better than before.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started my business right at the height of COVID. Shut downs and social distancing certainly presented its challenging working in a gym setting. I adjusted hours to see clients when classes weren’t going on at the gym, or saw them out of a separate section of my house, whatever I needed to do to make sure I could give the client a really valuable session. I’ve experienced all of the typical challenges of growth and transitioning from just client care into truly being a business owner and scaling my practice. I’ve experienced a lot of challenges in life, long before I was a physical therapist and business owner. I’ve always tried mindset of “there’s a solution to every problem.” Whatever the challenge, I’m capable of figuring anything out and I always find a solution. I think that mindset is a large part of where I am today.
