Exploring Life & Business with Hallie Dantzler of Hals Coffee

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Hallie Dantzler.

Hallie Dantzler

Hi Hallie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my love of coffee many, many years ago in grade school. As I entered my undergrad program for Sport and Exercise Science, I worked as a barista to help pay tuition; after I graduated, I entered the world of healthcare, where I thought I found my passion and lifelong career. I got my master’s of business in healthcare administration and worked through COVID in geriatric homecare.

At one point, my job became obsolete with the company, and I was laid off. I tried for months to find another similar position, but with no luck, I decided to combine my need for a job and my love of coffee. I created a full-service coffee shop on wheels with a huge amount of help from family and friends. Hal’s Coffee is my dream of being my own boss and serving people.

The connections you make with people over a cup of coffee are incredible. Hal’s Coffee is only growing and increasing happiness everywhere we go. We truly are bringing coffee & you together.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Fees. Permits. Connections. Phone calls. Time. Life. So many obstacles and challenges to being a business owner. I love what I do beyond measure, but there is always SO MUCH to do! Fees and permits can be difficult to navigate as the food truck world is still figuring things out.

Each location you go to as a truck has its requirements, and it can be hard to keep track of everything. Finding the right connections to get into events, set up at locations, and find places to be can be a challenge. Making connections is one of the most important components of running a successful business. Phone calls, texts, emails, and other things can also be a challenge.

Keeping up with every message is a challenge in everyday life, but mixing in business messages raises some difficulty levels. Having time to do everything you want and need is hard. There are so many things I want to attend and do, but I am only one person. If only there were a way to clone myself!! With all the challenges of being a business owner, I wouldn’t trade it for the world – this is the best job!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Hal’s Coffee is a full-service coffee shop on wheels! We carry everything from matcha to lattes to chai to hot chocolate to teas to espresso-based beverages. We have decaf espresso available. You can find us all around Northern Colorado at events, set up at Colorado State University’s Vet Teaching Hospital, catering special life events, and so much more!

We love meeting the critters that you bring by. Our focus is on sustainability and supporting local businesses. All of our consumables are recyclable or compostable. Hal’s Coffee is a safe space for all. All are welcome- no matter their stance on different topics. As long as everyone is respectful of each other, they are welcome to enjoy our delicious coffee.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is playing in a field behind a house I grew up in. The neighbors, my brother, and I all played endlessly in the field.

We had mud kitchens, stick guitars, and forts. It took more than the street lights coming on to bring us inside. Any day spent outside in the dirt was a day well spent. There isn’t one particular day that stands out, but they are all my favorite memories.
