Exploring Life & Business with Hannah Sheeley of Evermore Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Sheeley.

Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young adult, I volunteered in coffee shop settings which led to me falling in love with the experience. Over the years I knew that I wanted to have my own shop but I wasn’t sure what that would look like in the future. As the years passed I finally got to the point where I decided I wanted to take the leap and start my own coffee business. When I decided to quit my job and pursue my own dream, I planned on starting small and eventually building towards a brick and mortar shop. After three months of planning and looking for something that would work for my dream, I got frustrated and googled “Coffee Shop for sale near me”. This frustrated google search led me to my current location. I got the keys and opened a mere ten days later. Since opening day I have worked tirelessly towards growing and becoming a staple in the neighborhood. What started as a dream has become a better reality than I could have ever imagined.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges that come with being an entrepreneur. While many things in this process have been smooth, there is a level of loneliness that comes with running a business alone. The weight of every decision and the process of having to figure out all the ins and outs of how to do the business elements of the shop. The mundane aspects of applying for different licenses, business filings, or insurances can often be a cluster of confusion.

We’ve been impressed with Evermore Coffee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Evermore coffee was built from a dream of many years. There is a gravity level that comes with a dream that comes to life. As a small coffee shop you have to find your identity pretty quickly. In a world of coffee inundation, you have to decide what you want to be known for and what impact you want to make on your community. My focus is on making good coffee, having excellent customer service, and creating relationships. I want to offer a product that is consistent, delicious, and worth coming back for. I believe that getting repeat customers and creating those relationships is of the utmost importance. We offer coffee, teas, and snacks. Currently, I am most proud of our merchandise and the relationship we have built with other small businesses around the Colorado Region. I want my shop to be a place of community, where others want to come and spend their time together.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When I first started my business venture I was intent upon finding free resources and advice. I never assume that I am the smartest person in the room. I sought out small business owners who had started businesses similar to what I wanted to start. I asked for advice, suggestions, and took their words to heart. I also reached out to my local library for help looking into the numbers behind the type of business I was looking to start. I used the small business association as a resource as well. They assigned me a mentor but after several meetings it was not a good fit. My best resource was talking to small business owners who were willing to share their personal experiences.
