Today we’d like to introduce you to Josie Puett.
Hi Josie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story starts with my passion for animals since I was little. We always had pets growing up, dogs and cats. I think my passion to protect animals stems from unfortunately a tragic accident that happened when I was younger. Living overseas in Ghana, in the middle of the night my Mom woke up to check on our dog and he was found drowned in the backyard pool. He was a great swimmer and would swim with us in the ocean so drowning in our pool did not make sense. We suspected he was poisoned by the workers who lived on our property. The anger has still sat with me; So I strive to always maintain that safety, love and care while a pets family is gone.
I joined Rover in 2022 and absolutely loved meeting families who also just want their loved pets to be cared for. It really helped me connect to new families and pets needing care. What I didn’t like with that app is how mileage wasn’t accounted for, I was getting 20% of my earnings taken when clients were paying full price and I was getting paid three days after my services. I started Josie’s Pet Care LLC to have a more personal and understanding approach to pet sitting.
My goal is to build a company based on trust. As a pet sitter I am going into homes and meeting families briefly. But then I get to know their daily routine and how they much they love their animals quickly. We get really close really fast. My educational background in Social Work has helped me reach a variety of people and provide care in different settings. Building Josie’s Pet Care I wanted it to feel more personal. You only have to talk to me and you can ask as many questions as you need before we meet. I really don’t want families to worry. I know if you have a pet how much they are our family. I am here to make sure there is no gap in care when their family is gone.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been challenges. I did not have experience with business administration in college. So I feel I am at the beginning with entrepreneurship. I am learning all the administration steps it takes getting your LLC. Setting up my operating agreement, insurance, different types of scheduling, direct point of contact; there are a lot of new steps I am figuring out along the way. Also I constantly work on my website thinking of new ideas that might help future customers. I am always looking to improve.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Josie’s Pet Care LLC specializes in overnight and drop in care for your pets. If you are leaving for a whole day, an hour or maybe a couple weeks for a vacation; Josie’s Pet Care LLC is here to provide love, safety and care when you are gone. I am most proud that I give consistent compassionate care. No matter what type of animal or how many, I always provide warmhearted, loving care in your home. When you meet me you will know how much animals mean to me immediately.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The most important quality to me is trust, and that starts with direct communication. If you don’t need care in a specific area something you can let me know anytime. If you feel I am doing something wrong I need to know how to improve as soon as possible. I want your pets to feel at home even when their family is gone. And direct communication is very important. I give updates with all my pictures. But I also am transparent and want families to know if something happened. And I want them to feel the same way being able to reach out to tell me the appropriate type of care. I absolutely love caring for animals. You can trust me to provide love and care anytime you leave your loved pet/s at home.
