Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Kada.
Hi Justin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Exclusive Events was founded on a mission to reimagine the entertainment industry, both for the clients we serve and for the talented performers who make the magic happen. For me, that mission is deeply personal and grew out of my own story which started with a lifelong passion for creating music.
From an early age, I was drawn to unique sounds and composition. That led me to discover producing my own electronic music and eventually took me into the heart of the San Diego club scene. I was fortunate enough to DJ at some incredible venues and even open for major artists. It was there, in the middle of a packed dance floor, that the first seed of this business was planted.
Clubgoers would often ask me to DJ their weddings, and I started noticing a major disconnect. They wanted that high energy, seamless, “locked-in” dance floor experience from the club, but the wedding industry offered something very different. The focus was largely on polished MC work, with less emphasis on the artistry of performance DJing and creatively mixing music to create an experience and command a dance floor. There was a huge gap between the creative art of club DJing and the polished but often formulaic world of wedding entertainment.
But the moment this went from a business idea to a personal mission was my own wedding day. We had invested so much time and emotion into planning this perfect day, and our DJ missed some of the most critical moments, including the father daughter dance and the dance I was supposed to have with my mother. In that moment of frustration, I realized it wasn’t just about the music. It was about losing a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a memory with someone you love. That feeling solidified my purpose. I knew the industry needed more than just better performers it needed a better, more reliable approach.
That’s why I built Exclusive Events. I believe if you’re going to do something, you should do it right and with purpose. We were founded on a few key principles to solve these problems. We bring the dynamic talent of a club DJ, we blend it with the polished MC, and we support it all with rigorous training and processes to ensure no special moment is ever missed. It’s all about creating a truly unique celebration for our clients and giving them the peace of mind to simply enjoy the best day of their lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
That’s a great question. I’d love to say it was easy, but the truth is, pioneering a new approach always comes with challenges. A smooth road usually means you’re on a well traveled path, and we were determined to create a new one. We have a core value of “Progress Over Perfection,” which means we embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and refine our vision.
Initially, the biggest struggle was overcoming the “wedding DJ” stereotype. We were offering a fundamentally different, high energy experience, but many people were so used to the traditional, safer option that it was hard to convince them to invest in something they hadn’t seen before. Now, ironically, the challenge has evolved. Our style has become so popular that many DJs claim to offer it, but few can execute it at the level we do. We recently had a venue manager thank us for creating a genuinely unique soundtrack for each wedding, noting that most DJs they see play the exact same set list every single time. That’s just one difference we fought to create.
The other significant challenge was internal how to scale our unique approach without losing quality. It’s one thing for me to deliver a great performance, but building a team that can do it consistently is a monumental task. We had to create our own intensive training program from the ground up because nothing like it existed. The goal is to operate like a five star restaurant kitchen. While each chef has their own flair, the processes in place guarantee that every single plate that goes out meets an incredibly high standard. Every challenge, from training our team to refining our planning process, has forced us to build a stronger, more reliable system. Those struggles are the very reason our clients can have complete confidence in the experience we deliver every single time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Exclusive Events is the answer for couples who want more than a traditional wedding DJ. We are a performance focused company that creates customized weddings backed by meticulous planning so our clients can have the time of their lives without a single worry.
What truly sets us apart is the specific experience we create. We aim to capture that incredible feeling of seeing your favorite artist perform live or being at your favorite nightclub, providing a unique escape. We are focused on crafting an entertaining performance that matches our clients’ vision, rather than just playing songs and hoping people dance. This is accomplished in a number of ways. We’ve created custom tracks with recordings layered over music as the bride walks down the aisle, brought a silent disco for a couple that initially met at one, surprised one couple with our live sax player, and frequently look for fun ways to enhance their vision. A wedding planner once told us that our level of involvement during planning and the care we show is unmatched, because we get to know our clients on a deeper level to magnify their vision.
That level of performance is only possible because of what we do behind the scenes. A business without processes is doomed for failure. Our detailed planning process is based on the experience of hundreds of weddings. It’s designed to be smooth and efficient, ensuring we get everything we need from the client without adding stress so they can simply enjoy their time with their guests.
What I’m most proud of brand wise is our dual vision. We want to create the best events ever for our clients, and we want to help as many DJs as possible build fulfilling full time careers. I spent most of my life doing work that wasn’t fulfilling, and I’m a huge advocate for pursuing work with purpose. To have happy clients, we need a team that is happy and purposeful, and I want to help as many people experience that as I can.
I want readers to know that we are more than just DJs we are your entertainment partners, our entire focus is on getting to know you and magnifying your vision. The goal isn’t just to play great music, it’s to create a celebration that feels completely, authentically, and uniquely you. By the time the wedding arrives our clients often feel like family. We’ll even meet them at shows and go to dinner with them.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely, I’m a huge believer in continuous growth, both as an artist and as an entrepreneur. My resources are pretty diverse, but they all circle back to improving our craft and our business.
On a foundational level, the book that has resonated with me most is “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson. It’s all about the power of small, consistent disciplines compounding over time. People often look for an overnight success story, but this book reinforces that success is built by chipping away at your goals every single day. That philosophy is baked into how we built Exclusive Events, breaking down our huge vision into manageable steps and focusing on getting a little better every day.
On the creative front, inspiration is everywhere. I’m constantly watching other live performers, scouting social media for unique ideas, and networking with top DJs around the country to see what’s working. My wife Lesley is my secret weapon; she has a great ear and I bounce a lot of new ideas off her. Musically, I’m inspired by producers like Two Friends and Loud Luxury who are masters at mashing up classic sing alongs with high energy dance music. That’s the exact vibe we love to create. But the number one method is still experimentation and reading the crowd.
For business strategy, I’m always learning. I attend several industry workshops a year, and I regularly listen to Alan Berg’s ‘Wedding Business Solutions’ and David Osborne’s ‘Million Dollar Multi-Op’ podcasts. In my previous career, I trained businesses on how to be successful, so these podcasts feel like my new accountability partners, keeping those core principles top of mind.
And that leads to one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned which is respecting the value of your time. If a tool, an app, or a person can help you focus your time where it makes the most impact, it’s worth the investment. Don’t jump over dollars to save pennies. Your time is your most valuable asset, and leveraging resources to maximize it is the key to real growth.
