Exploring Life & Business with Karina Corral of Chepe Insurance ans Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Corral.

Hi Karina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Karina Corral, I’m 41 years old. I was born in Mexico and moved to the United States when I was very young. One of my first jobs here, along with many others, was as a receptionist at a family-owned insurance agency. That’s where I learned a lot about the business. After a couple of years, life took me down a completely different path. I tried different jobs, but nothing really felt right—until one day, the universe brought me back to insurance. Funny story: while I was helping my wife look for a job, I found my current position at that time posted at the same company I was working for. That could only mean one thing—I was getting fired!
There was an insurance agency right across the street from the apartment complex where we lived, so I sent them my resume. I had an interview, and by the time my job called me into HR to let me go, I already had a new job lined up for the following Monday. That’s when I realized that “not all “bad” things are actually bad”. Getting back into insurance, sales, and helping people turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me. It’s definitely what I love to do.
From there, I was able to get licensed and learn the business better than ever. After five years, I had the opportunity to open an insurance agency offering additional services with business partners. That partnership lasted two years, and after reviewing the business and some situations, we decided to go our separate ways. I continued the business on my own and kept most of the services going. A few months later, my wife joined me, and now she helps me run the office, especially during our busiest seasons. We’ve been able to keep this business going for more than seven years, and I still have plenty of plans and dreams for our agency.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been easy at all; the stress and uncertainty of not having a stable income, health benefits, retirement plan, and knowing that it is not about waking up and getting ready for another day at the office, but we have to find the clients and bring them to our door is not an easy task.

Yes, I usually listen to Spanish podcasts about mental health, business, and relationships. My favorite is Marco Antonio Regil’s podcast because he covers a variety of interesting topics every Sunday.
