Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Petty.
Hi Kate, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I recently graduate with my Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical School. Well before starting my physical therapy career I had been coaching CrossFit. I started coaching in high school and having been deeply immersed in the world of CrossFit and health and fitness in general ever since. In the middle of my doctoral studies, I found CrossFit ELM and soon became an integral part of their coaching team. The owners- Brandon and Marka Garcia, have helped me navigate opening a new business and have supported every step of my journey to opening my own practice. I knew I wanted to combine my passions for fitness and physical therapy and upon getting my doctorate, I open RX Physical Therapy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle has been learning all the business side of running a clinic that no one talks about in PT school. There is a lot more that has to be considered when starting a business, but adding on top of that the requirements to make sure everything is up to standard from a medical stand point is a lot, from patient intake to ensuring patient privacy and security. Its a huge switch for my brain to go from thinking about rotator cuff tears to thinking about HIPAA compliant scheduling systems.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about RX Physical Therapy?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is growing up in Durango and going backpacking with my twin sister in the San Juan mountains.
