Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Tsimakhoutsava.
Hi Kate, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
If start from the very beginning, then it probably all started with a movie “Chocolat” 2000. Watched it much later than the year of release. It was during or just in the year of my admission to study at the university as a psychologist. And to be honest, I don’t remember the whole movie very well. But the only thing that I got out of it and that was with me all the time is that I want to open a unique place. With the main idea that when a guest comes, you choose a dessert exclusively for him: for his psychotype, mood, or life situation. I loved this idea so much! But all this was not about desserts, but about psychology. And over time, this idea went deep into me after my decision not to connect my life with psychology. But it was always with me! And to be honest, I realized this only now. I spent more than 10 years in restaurant industry. And love the idea to open my own place. But it never was about desserts and pastry/confectionery sphere. Restaurant – maybe, bar – for sure. But not desserts! And now, thinking about it all deeper, I understand that that distant idea took its power and began to be realized.
After moving to USA, I discovered that the palates of nations are completely different. And it was a challenge for me to find a dessert. And I am one of those people who, if they cannot find something, begin to do it themselves. And when you also see the same need in other people, it develops into something bigger. This is how “Mini Me Pastry” happened. And “Mini Me” is just about psychology and personality. That even something small is unique, meaningful, and very personal. It’s about understanding what is important and what exactly we want.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge for me is disbelief in myself and in my idea. But every day, when you take a step towards some difficulties and solve them, you become a little stronger and begin to believe a little more. The main thing is to take steps and think less!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mini Me Pastry it is online bakery specialized in European desserts. We make desserts for every day, holidays, and special events. Our main product is mousse mini cakes. In addition to the well-balanced taste and bright flavors, the main idea is instead of buying one cake with one flavor, you can buy a set of 6 completely different flavors. And everyone can find exactly what they like or want for right now. And of course, you can share it and discuss your experience. European desserts are very different from American. And our goal is to show that different world. This experience is like a trip to another country. We just make it more accessible and possible.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
It is always a risk of doing something differently than everyone else. But here it is rather a matter of faith in yourself and in an idea. I’m more of those people who take risks but think 500 times before. And as a result – having taken a step – they get a completely different real experience. And after that, you understand that the main thing is to make steps, not spend a lot of time thinking. And solve real problems as they arise
