Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Franzmann
Hi Katie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
*(I do a manual therapy called Rolfing, basically we look at these deeply rooted patterns that manifest in your body causing dysfunction and pain and tension and basically we get you feeling better, by doing combination of hands on manipulation work and pattern movement education.)*
Chronic Pain is what brought me to this work! In 2014, I was in a car accident, and suddenly, I was developing chronic back pain. I couldn’t get out of bed without my back seizing up. This is age 27, I have always been health-conscious and constantly searching for new wellness hacks, but I knew I was too young to be in this much pain. So a few years later and more chronic pain, I experienced a few Rolfing sessions and it helped and I decided to go to the Rolf Institute to help heal my pain. And here I am 7 years in my own Rolfing practice.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha! Yes and no. I opened my practice on January 1, 2018, and after just 8 months, I had a mostly full practice. Then, Covid hit, and like many others, I was mandated to shut down. Also I had the best office space, but ended my lease because I had no idea how long we’d be shut down for. Since then, I’ve had a hard time finding a space that compares to my original office. I do a lot of movement work, so a big, cozy room would be ideal.
We’ve been impressed with Rocky Mountain Rolfing LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I feel extremely lucky—I get to help most of my clients feel better, and it’s incredibly rewarding. Many people come to my office after trying every other therapy, and I’m their last resort. I look at the whole body rather than focusing solely on one issue. Our bodies are complex and interconnected, like a clock. Every piece has to be aligned and in sync for the body to “tick” smoothly. If a person comes in with, say, left lower leg pain, sometimes the root issue actually resides in their right lung. By looking for and addressing these “incongruencies” across the body, I help people become more balanced, efficient, and resilient, so they can move through life at their own natural pace.
One thing I really want your listeners to know is that if you’re dealing with chronic pain, discomfort, migraines, or if your body just doesn’t feel like it used to, don’t give up. Often, your body just needs some guidance to begin self-healing and self-regulating again. Healing can take time. My own journey with chronic low back pain, which started after a car accident in 2014, took time to resolve. It finally went away within the first year of starting my practice in 2019. So be patient with yourself, and if you haven’t already, consider trying Rolfing. It might be the new approach that makes all the difference.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
