Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Watts.
Hi Kristin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I spent the first twenty years of my career as a salon owner and stylist. Cutting, coloring, and helping clients uncover the beauty they already possessed. Hair wasn’t just my profession; it was where I experienced genuine human connection, discovered that we all crave the same sense of belonging, and witnessed how even the smallest change can ignite a profound shift in someone’s life.
Then, just as the world braced for COVID-19, my life was upended by a traumatic brain injury. Overnight, I couldn’t drive, my thoughts grew hazy, and the routines I depended on disappeared. Thankfully, I had a stylist who kept Chroma Hair Lab’s doors open, but every morning I woke asking: How will I get through today? Will I get through today?
When the pandemic finally forced us to close, I realized my twenty-year salon career was about to go dark. I needed a new path, one I could pursue even from my bed yet still harness my creativity and passion for transformation. Between therapy sessions and rest, I dove into the digital world, teaching myself branding, web design, and business consulting in bite-sized experiments. Drawing on lessons from running multiple businesses and a nonprofit for domestic-violence survivors, I learned to stretch scarce resources, make strategic moves, and stay resolute in my determination.
That journey gave rise to Virtual Partner Services, where I blend creative strategy with operational excellence to help entrepreneurs and small-business owners refine their brands, streamline their systems, and stay focused on what brings them passion.
Just when I thought I had faced my toughest challenges, life threw another curveball: my partner of ten years left without warning. Suddenly, I was solely responsible for every bill, caring for our beloved Frenchies, and mending a broken heart while still healing from my brain injury. Those months tested me beyond what I thought possible, but they reinforced the lessons I had already learned: the value of clear boundaries, the strength found in community, and the power of reframing every setback as an opportunity to grow.
Helping others build and grow their businesses has given me a renewed sense of purpose, and every project reminds me why I made this leap in the first place. I’m deeply grateful to have carried forward a special crew of my salon clients, their loyalty and trust fuel my confidence and success at Virtual Partner Services. Today, I stand in a place of possibility, fully convinced that the sky is the limit. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds and to partner with the next wave of entrepreneurs ready to transform their dreams into reality.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been more mountain climb than highway drive:
Lost my normal
A traumatic brain injury stole my ability to drive and scattered my thoughts, forcing me to relearn even the simplest parts of daily life.
Faced the shutdown
When COVID closed Chroma Hair Lab and paused my nonprofit overnight, I feared everything I’d built would vanish, especially with my injury still fresh.
Pivoted to digital
Between therapy sessions and overwhelming fatigue, I logged into my first online class with shaky hands (and I’m still learning today), mastering digital design, website layouts, and business consulting one small win at a time.
Supported others behind the scenes
Even as imposter syndrome whispered that I didn’t belong, I leaned on nonprofit grit and business savvy to help entrepreneurs with fundraising campaigns and brand refreshes, all while rebuilding my own foundation and strengthening my resilience every single day.
Weathered personal loss
When my partner of ten years left without warning, I felt raw and alone. But I finally practiced what I’d been preaching: carving out rest, setting firm boundaries, and leaning into my community.
Bit by bit, I emerged stronger, more compassionate, and more determined than ever to help others turn their own cracks into light.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Virtual Partner Services?
Virtual Partner Services is the culmination of everything I’ve lived and learned:
Digital Design & Branding: From full website overhauls and brand-identity kits to logo refreshes, I guide clients to show up online with authenticity and impact.
Strategic Growth & Operational Excellence: I design email workflows, SOPs, and project-management systems so entrepreneurs can scale without burning out.
Client Management & Relations: Using the deep-listening skills I honed in the salon, I help teams implement CRM solutions and service standards that make every customer feel truly seen.
What sets Virtual Partner Services apart is resilience, genuine empathy, experience and true partnership. I rebuilt my life after a brain injury, weathered a global pandemic, and bounced back from personal loss: so I know how to create strategies and systems that stand firm under any pressure.
Each brand plan and process I create blends the attentive listening and creative spark I developed with my salon clients with actionable steps that keep businesses on track. And I’m more than a service provider, I’m a partner in the trenches, celebrating the wins, tackling setbacks, and modeling the breakthroughs I know are possible.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success isn’t measured by revenue or awards, it’s embodied in those quiet, profound moments when we lean fully into our own stories. It’s breaking old patterns by choosing compassion over shame; whether that means reclaiming my own trauma narrative or guiding a client to free herself from the tasks that siphon away her passion.
It’s the courage to be vulnerable: to show up imperfect, admit our cracks, and invite others to do the same. It’s the deep, lasting resonance when a business owner leans in and says, “This new strategy finally feels like me,” or when a survivor takes her first brave step toward healing.
And it’s real-time resilience: from relearning everyday tasks after my brain injury to emerging stronger after emotional heartbreak. True success shines through how often we rise again, and in how boldly we help others do the same.
