Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Pollema.
Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I opened up a group private practice in 2021 for clients to receive individual, group, and couples therapy. I have always had a passion for connecting with others and walking alongside people through hardship. I worked as a therapist, at another company, at the start of my career and I started to see the value of understanding clients through a holistic perspective.
I took a leap of faith in 2021 to start my own practice where I hire and train therapists to look at their clients through the lens of physical, emotional, and spiritual health that accounts for all aspects of our client’s well-being. My dream is to grow this group practice to have more therapists and work with other wellness specialists who can offer services such as trauma-informed yoga and nutrition consultation as clients learn to care for themselves through different avenues.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have had to learn to not only be a good therapist but a good business owner and a healthy leader of my team. This has required a lot of self-reflection and humility to understand my weaknesses as I continue to grow the business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pollema Counseling Center?
Pollema Counseling Center is a group private practice that offers LPC supervision, and individual, couples, and group therapy. We also offer a comprehensive 4 phase private practice development package to teach therapists how to build, grow and sustain a healthy private practice. At our practice, we value the importance of understanding the holistic view of each client and working to care for that client through this lens. We specialize in trauma-informed therapy, attachment theory, and relationship issues.
We love working with all different kinds of clients and have experience with almost every type of mental health issue.
We also believe in the power of community and have a great network of therapists who we refer to when we think another therapist might be the best fit for a new client. We are most proud of our passion to walk alongside each and every client. We value each individual person and recognize what an honor it is to be someone’s therapist.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Imposter syndrome gets the best of me sometimes.
It is hard to maintain confidence in yourself when things go wrong or there is a bump in the road. My support system has been absolutely essential in building me up. I need people in my life to remind me why I am doing this work and to tell me I am doing a good job even when it does not feel that way.
