Exploring Life & Business with Leah Welborn of Empower Your Magical Self

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Welborn

Hi Leah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My autism – undiagnosed for my first 5 decades – has set the tone of my life, but of course I haven’t known that until fairly recently. My diagnosis at 48 made the profound discomfort of the first part of my life understandable; I had spent my life labeled as depressed and anxious, and all the while I searched for something outside of myself to make me feel whole. I wish that I hadn’t required an autism diagnosis to feel I had permission to love myself, but I did learn a lot during my decades-long quest for happiness, and I’m sharing those things now in order to help others.
Over the last four years, I’ve empowered my magical self. Now at 52, I’m happier and healthier than I’ve ever been. At last my mission in this life is clear – I’m here to help other people empower their magical selves and find their individual path to sovereignty and joy in the same way I’ve learned to do for myself.
That’s what Empower Your Magical Self – the Reiki studio, the podcast, and the book – are all about.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There hasn’t even been a road for most of my path – I was out there alone with metaphorical machetes hacking my way through the forest, trying to find a way. It was apparent from my early childhood that I’d not be taking the traditional path through life, and I was always different from other kids. I loved college and got two masters degrees but never found “success” in a career or relationships. I’m saying all this because I’m certain there’s at least one person reading this who can relate (and they’re probably neurodivergent though they might not have realized it yet). It’s not too late, I promise you. You can find meaning and joy in life that you never imagined you could know, and you can start getting to that place right now – even if you have no idea how.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Empower Your Magical Self is everything I do. It’s a Reiki studio in Aurora, Colorado (I also provide virtual Reiki services worldwide), and it’s also a podcast that I host where I talk to creative  people who have inspired me with their own magic. I’m just wrapping up the second season of the show, and the conversations have been mind-blowing. I’m so grateful.

The latest offering from the brand, just in time for the New Year, is my book, Empower Your Magical Self with a One Month Habit Break: A Handbook for Reclaiming Sovereignty in 30 Days. I’m really excited about it because I know that it’s a powerful tool for helping people improve their lives.

Having utterly turned my life around over the last four years, I can tell you that changing my habits was key. This little book distills my years of learning on diverse topics like polyvagal theory, somatics, metaphysics, energy work, Jungian theory, and mindfulness into one 30 day program that will help you take your power back from any habit that’s interfering with your joy.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
As a late-diagnosed autistic woman, it’s been absolutely crucial for me to find neurodivergent mentors from whom I can learn and peers with whom I can share experiences. If any of your readers are neurodivergent (or suspect they may be), I encourage them to find other neurospicy folks who share your interests. It can change everything for the better.
