Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Frahm.
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Aurora, Colorado, under wide skies and surrounded by Colorado’s never-ending natural beauty. From a young age, I was drawn to creating, whether building, designing, or imagining how pieces could come together in unexpected ways. That curiosity led me to study architecture, first at Kansas State University and later at CU Boulder, where I completed my bachelor’s degree. After graduation, I began practicing residential architecture, learning how to balance structure with artistry and how attention to detail complements big-picture thinking, lessons I never realized would carry over into a very different kind of creative work that I would eventually explore.
In 2017, we purchased 10 acres outside of Parker, where I designed our home from the ground up. In 2020, an unexpected garden project during COVID became the foundation for what would eventually grow into Prairie Hill Flower Co. What started as a personal sanctuary for growing flowers quickly became a lifeline for the community, offering a space to gather, connect, and create during a difficult time for our nation. Watching people discover joy in small acts of creativity, cutting a variety of blooms, arranging a bouquet with their own hands, or simply pausing to watch a butterfly in the garden, reminded me that design isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about connection, intention, and the experiences we create for others.
Over the past five years, what began as a simple flower farm fueled by creativity and entrepreneurial drive has grown into a full-service wedding and event floral studio. Prairie Hill now brings intentional, sustainable, and deeply personal floral design to weddings, private celebrations, and corporate events. We’ve been honored with multiple awards and magazine features, including Female Entrepreneur of the Year, but the recognition is secondary to the work itself. The true reward is helping people celebrate life’s most meaningful moments with beauty, care, and heart. Along the way, I’ve learned that success isn’t about perfection or chasing trends, it’s about trusting your instincts, taking bold risks, leaning into what inspires you, embracing detours, and holding steadfast to your values.
Raising two boys, navigating life’s unexpected twists, and growing flowers in Colorado’s unpredictable climate have all taught me the same lesson, flexibility, presence, and intention matter more than a rigid plan. Those lessons shape everything I do at Prairie Hill, from designing an intricate bouquet to guiding clients through the creative process. Growth, creativity, and connection flourish when we slow down, pay attention, and fully engage with the present. My story isn’t just about flowers or events, it’s about building something with heart, impact, and resilience, and encouraging others to do the same in their own lives and businesses.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, I’m grateful for that. Growing flowers in Colorado comes with its own challenges, from unpredictable weather to environmental setbacks that can completely change the outcome of my season. From multiple rounds of hail to a grasshopper pandemic that destroyed my entire field just two weeks after planting, growing anything here in Colorado is not for the faint of heart. On top of that, raising two boys while building a business added another layer of unpredictability, teaching me that flexibility, perseverance, and patience are just as important as creativity and skill.
There were also moments when I had to make difficult decisions, like shifting away from daily flower orders to focus entirely on weddings and events. Letting go of the routines I had built and stepping fully into something new was both frightening and liberating. Along the way, I’ve learned that failure isn’t always a roadblock, sometimes it’s a closed door protecting you from paths that aren’t meant for you. Each challenge has taught me to pause, reflect, and adapt, helping me grow both personally and professionally, and giving me the perspective to approach my work with more intention, heart, and resilience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Prairie Hill Flower Co.?
Prairie Hill Flower Co. is a full-service wedding and event floral studio based in Parker, Colorado, where every design is intentional, sustainable, and deeply personal. What sets us apart is our ability to create floral experiences that feel effortless and natural yet purposeful and elegant, inspired by the natural beauty and rhythm of each season. Every bouquet, installation, and centerpiece is thoughtfully curated to reflect the story, values, and vision of the clients we serve, whether it’s an intimate wedding, a private celebration, or a grand corporate event.
Rooted in our origins as a flower farm, where we nurtured many of our own blooms, we understand the nuances of seasonality, sustainability, and the art of working with living materials. That knowledge allows us to craft designs that are timeless, fresh, and distinctly personal, transcending fleeting trends. We offer an exceptional experience to our clients, including custom design services, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to bringing their vision to life in a way that feels effortless yet extraordinary. We intentionally take on only one event per weekend, ensuring every client receives our full attention and a level of artistry, care, and thoughtfulness that elevates their celebration to something extraordinary.
What brings me the most pride is to have watched Prairie Hill grow from a small flower farm into something bigger that inspires connection, creativity, and joy. Beyond our recognition and the influential changes we have made to the floral industry, our heart lies in helping our clients celebrate life’s most meaningful moments with intention, beauty, and grace. Whether a wedding, intimate gathering, or a corporate affair, our mission is to craft floral experiences that linger long after the moment, designs that feel exquisitely personal, and arrangements that reveal the story, spirit, and essence of those we celebrate.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve come to believe that if you’re not willing to take risks, you shouldn’t be a business owner. Risk is inherent in growth, without it, a business becomes stagnant, and stagnant businesses don’t thrive. Taking risks means opening opportunities for expansion, creativity, and evolution, even when it’s uncomfortable or uncertain. It means leaning into the unknown, trusting your instincts, and being willing to pivot when circumstances demand it.
For me, some of the biggest risks have been about stepping into the unknown and trusting the vision I had for Prairie Hill Flower Co. Shifting the business model to focus solely on weddings and events, investing in new ideas, and expanding services all required leaving behind familiar routines and comfort zones. Some risks worked beautifully, while others didn’t, but every outcome, success or failure, offered valuable lessons. Taking risks also means being willing to honestly evaluate what is working and what isn’t and cutting out the things that aren’t moving you forward toward your goals. Facing the results and moving forward regardless is what allows a business to evolve, grow, and reflect the creativity, heart, and purpose that defines it today.
The rewards of risk are profound. Every bold choice has created opportunities to connect more deeply with clients, explore new creative directions, and build a business that is truly personal, intentional, and resilient. Risk-taking has taught me that failure isn’t always a setback, sometimes it’s a closed door protecting you from paths that aren’t meant for you, while simultaneously opening doors you never knew existed. In short, risk isn’t just part of business, it’s part of life, and it’s how meaningful, lasting growth is born.
