Exploring Life & Business with MaKena Onorato of Wyld Things Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to MaKena Onorato.

Hi MaKena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I picked up a camera in late 2019 and the rest is history. I started Wyld Things Photography in 2020 and dabbled in many different forms of the art. I have had the pleasure of photographing seniors graduating, newborns, families start and grow, pets large and small, proposals, weddings and boudoir. Capturing moments that will last a lifetime is my favorite. I love being able to be creative and make memories at the same time. I love making people feel comfortable in front of my kens and capturing those candid moments.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am a self taught photographer. Failure was never an option but learning to edit, figure out what the number mean on my camera and learning posing was not easy. I always strive to be unique. Ive made several mistakes in photography but learning from them is part of the game. As a mom, homeschooler, wife and business owner it’s tough juggling all my titles but I thrive on being busy. I wouldn’t trade the sleepless nights for anything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wyld Things Photography?
What sets my business apart is the way I approach photography—not just as a service, but as a friendship. I want my clients to feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated every step of the way. My style is vibrant, full of life, and especially inspired by the magic of golden hour in fall and the fresh colors of spring. While I offer a wide variety of sessions, my specialties are boudoir, sunset portraits, seniors, and families. Each session is about more than just taking photos—it’s about creating lasting memories in a way that feels fun, natural, and uniquely you. I’m most proud that my brand feels warm, approachable, and real. At the heart of it, I’m not just a photographer—I’m a friend behind the camera who makes people feel comfortable and celebrated. I love that my brand reflects vibrant, joy-filled images and the magic of golden hour, but also the deeper value of creating a safe, fun space for people to be themselves. My work isn’t just about photos; it’s about connection, confidence, and memories that last forever.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest problem support of all is my husband, Garret. That man has sacrificed hours of his time to help me put together props, be a second shooter, be a second set of eyes when im editing and keeps me caffeinated during my busy season. I presented him with a business idea and he helped give Wyld Things Photography wings. He has never complained once about how much I spend on photography gear either. I also have to shout out to my clients who have stuck around from day one. You all have cheered me on and supported my little business for over 5 years now and I am so very grateful for each and every one of you.
