Exploring Life & Business with Maryjean Starr of Feisty Pelvic Power

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryjean Starr.

Hi Maryjean, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up as an athlete — playing
soccer, basketball, softball, swimming, and running track. Movement has always been part of my
identity.
I earned dual degrees from Case Western Reserve University — a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S.
in Accounting — and started in psychological research before transitioning into cost accounting
and financial analysis. But I quickly realized neither career was fulfilling.
So I went back to school, completing my prerequisites at The Ohio State University and earning
my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. It was a difficult journey —
especially after losing my dad to a heart attack — but my mom’s support kept me moving
forward.
Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of settings, from fast-paced clinics to travel therapy
assignments across Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Washington, and Colorado. Travel
gave me the chance to broaden my experience and discover my love for the mountains. Three
years ago, I settled in Longmont, where I finally felt at home.
After years working in large healthcare systems, I realized I wanted something different — a
space that allowed for deeper connection, authenticity, and whole-body healing. With the
encouragement of family, friends, and mentors, I opened my own practice, Feisty Pelvic Power
LLC. It’s been one of the hardest and most rewarding decisions of my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all — starting fresh in a new community was tough. When I began, no one in the local
medical network knew me, and referrals were hard to come by. Over time, word-of-mouth from
clients became my strongest source of growth, and that’s something I deeply value.

I also made the decision not to accept insurance so I could focus on providing personalized care
to each of my clients. It’s a choice that limits who I can serve but allows me to provide care
that’s ethical, personal, and effective.

Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve had to navigate self-doubt, pricing fears, and the art of setting
boundaries. I’ve learned to protect my time and energy so I can serve my clients well and sustain
my business. Every challenge has taught me resilience, humility, and trust in my own process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Feisty Pelvic Power?
Tell us more about Feisty Pelvic Power LLC.

Feisty Pelvic Power LLC is a physical therapy practice for the tenacious and determined —
people who bring courage and grit to their healing journey. I treat a full range of physical therapy
conditions but specialize in pelvic floor therapy and nervous system regulation.
The name “Feisty” has personal meaning. My dad used to call me feisty, and he was right — I
don’t back down from a challenge. I later learned the word also means brave, tenacious, and
courageous — traits I see in every client who walks through my door. “Pelvic” symbolizes the
body’s energetic center — the foundation of vitality and strength.
My approach blends hands-on physical therapy, intuitive guidance, and movement-based
exercises. I believe true healing happens when the body feels safe. Sessions are not just clinical;
they’re deeply human and restorative — a space for the body to exhale, the nervous system to
soften, and the person to remember: You are not broken. You are whole.
What do you specialize in and what sets you apart?
I specialize in helping active individuals heal from chronic or traumatic injuries, prepare for
pregnancy and labor, recover from postpartum, and address pelvic floor dysfunction. My
approach combines evidence-based therapy with intuitive, nervous-system–informed care.
What sets me apart is how I integrate physical therapy with emotional and nervous system
awareness. I don’t just focus on strength or mechanics — I look at the underlying patterns of
tension, safety, and energy in the body that often hold the key to recovery. My goal isn’t to push
through pain but to work with the body, creating lasting, whole-person healing.
What are you most proud of, brand-wise?
I’m proud that Feisty Pelvic Power has become a space where people feel seen — not just as
patients, but as whole beings. The brand reflects who I am: compassionate, grounded, and yes —
feisty. It’s about healing rooted in safety, love, and authenticity.
I’m proud that clients complete their plans of care, feel supported, and know they can return
whenever they need to. The brand captures the balance of strength and softness — a reminder
that healing is about finding harmony between effort and ease.

What do you want readers to know about your work?
Feisty Pelvic Power is more than physical therapy — it’s a space for reconnection. My sessions
blend science and intuition to restore movement and calm the nervous system.
Whether you’re managing persistent pain, preparing for childbirth, recovering from postpartum,
or simply feeling disconnected, there’s a way forward. Healing isn’t about perfection — it’s
about coming home to yourself, and remembering the power, grace, and intelligence that’s
always been within you.
