Exploring Life & Business with Meg Garcia-jahrman of Establiss Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Garcia-jahrman

Hi Meg, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I was always an overachiever. I got good grades, did multiple extracurricular activities, and tried my hardest to be what I thought I “needed” from myself and from my life. The pattern continued into college where I was able to graduate early with my degree in political science and sociology. Before I started my own business, I worked in nonprofit work, nannying, marketing, and politics. I’ve been able to work on political campaigns, done work with numerous non-profits, and have helped many families with their children over the years.

Once I graduated I recognized that I wasn’t going to be able to enter the workforce as I traditionally thought I would due to burnout and chronic health issues— which is what led me to entrepreneurship. I needed something that could be flexible and malleable for my life and my needs. And starting my own business seemed to be the answer. Over the years I have offered many different things such as Reiki, breathwork, artwork, copywriting, website development, and so much more. My business has gone through many iterations, but I have been exclusively working in marketing and business strategy for over 3 years now, as well as mentoring other entrepreneurs who are experiencing similar obstacles to myself.

My path has not been linear or made a lot of sense, especially if you were to write it all out. There are dips and changes and pivots that have happened along the way. But they ultimately led me to what I am doing now and I am so grateful. Without trying all of the avenues that I did, I wouldn’t have found my place in marketing or in mentorship.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but that is just a part of being an entrepreneur in my opinion. Most of my struggles have stemmed from physical and mental health issues that I have had to deal with.

As a child and teenager I struggled with numerous chronic health issues and mental health issues that led me to a lot of doctor’s appointments. In college, a lot of these things seemed to subside and I was able to move quicker than I had before.

Then in my early 20’s underlying chronic health issues presented themselves again and got worse as I continued to get older. Chronic health issues paired with mental health issues made some of the struggles I faced even worse. When my physical health would get bad, my mental health would plummet as well.

As I was navigating my physical health, I also realized that my brain just worked differently and I was eventually diagnosed with ADHD and Autism at 24.

Navigating my own mental health and physical health has been a huge obstacle for me in my life and as an entrepreneur. This is on top of the struggles that accompany being an entrepreneur like looking for clients, trying to decide what direction to move in, and grappling with the other anxieties that come with working for yourself.

My health is constantly in flux and changing which is one of the major obstacles I deal with, since everyday can look so different and my ability to work can change day-to-day. This hasn’t stopped me from building something I love, but it looks a lot different than I would have originally thought.

Ultimately, I am grateful that entrepreneurship allows me to work in a way that feels supportive for me and allows me to take care of my health first.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Establiss Co. ?
My business has two aspects, the marketing/business strategy side, and then mentoring on the other side. While I am proud of the work that I do with my marketing and business strategy clients, the work I am most proud of is the work I do with low energy entrepreneurs.

I identify as a low energy entrepreneur and work as a marketing + business strategist for other low energy entrepreneurs. What does this mean? A low energy entrepreneur is anyone who deals with a mental illness, a chronic illness, disability, they are neurodivergent, they are a parent or caretaker, or are generally someone who doesn’t have the same capacity as everyone else OR they just are interested in doing business in a slower and more gentle way.

Low energy entrepreneurship is something that I co-created with my business bestie, Kendall Barger. Together we have been able to cultivate a community of over 600 other low energy entrepreneurs in our Mighty Network community. (The Low Energy Entrepreneur Community is what it is called if you want to check it out!)

I feel so honored to work with the types of folks that I do because I know how hard business can be when the strategies and advice being shared just doesn’t work for you or your brain or your energy. Being able to share with folks that there is another way to do business is one of the things I love most about the work I do.

If you want to check out The Low Energy Entrepreneur Community, philosophy, and more, check out the Mighty Network community! We post a tip every week day, have a resource vault, and we also have one of our most popular calls about low energy entrepreneur strategy available for you to purchase as well.

What makes you happy?
Things that make me happy are the smaller things in life— which sounds so cliché, I know. But when you lose the ability to do~ a lot of things at a younger age, you learn how important the smaller things in life are. Good cups of coffee, the smell of books, spending time alone in nature, learning new things or fun facts, decorating your space, a clean set of sheets, talking to friends on the phone, etc.

To many people these are just things that happen in their lives, but for me these are the things that make my life more enjoyable and bring me happiness. A lot of my life I always thought it was the big things that would make me happy— taking long vacations, having the newest things, getting promotions, etc. and when those were no longer things that were feasible or realistic in my life, I had to completely shift my idea of happiness and what brought me joy.

It took a long time to shift into gratitude and find joy in the little things in life. For a while I was angry, I was sad, and I was grieving what I thought my life was “supposed” to be and the fact that I wasn’t able to do things like I was used to. A daily gratitude practice where I forced myself to write out at least 3 things that I was grateful for is how I began to recognize how important the little things were in my life and I was able to see how they contributed to my happiness. Even on bad days, there was always something small that would be able to bring a smile to my face.
