Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Grabau
Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Megan Grabau and I have always been ambitious. Since I was very young, I knew I wanted to make dance my profession. I grew up dancing and when I turned 18 I moved to LA and got signed to an agency. From there, I had the opportunity to tour Europe as a dancer and aerialist for a couple years, be in TV shows, music videos, campaigns, and movies. However, when covid hit, I truly found a new side to my career, teaching, choreographing, and directing.
After covid hit, and my ambition kicked back in, I realized I could either create what is not yet created or let others determine my career and income. This is how my company MEG Productions began. Looking back today, the start of my company was something so much bigger than I could see at the time. It was the start of encouragement, hope, inspiration, and a renewal of the true love for dance. Now, full time, I am a master dance teacher, I direct dance conventions, I direct exclusive intensives, and choreograph for different studios and events. Through all of the amazing opportunities I have been apart of or directed, my goal is always to make every person I come in contact with feel loved, seen, and valued as a artist and as a person.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that no journey as an entrepreneur is smooth. Everyday your job is to problem solve and create solutions on the spot. However, the struggles and the unknowns are what make the victories so sweet. I think one struggle that isn’t commonly talked about in any art form or expression, is constantly creating something that is magnificent. I am, as almost all artists are, a perfectionist and hold myself to a standard of excellence. There is a struggle with art of allowing yourself to explore, not expecting yourself to attain perfection, but always being honest with yourself and holding your art to a standard. I think any human can agree that in any area in life finding the balance of grace and excellence is difficult.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MEG Productions?
MEG Productions stands for dancers stepping into their greatness with confidence, resilience, and grace. My company encompasses not only my master dance instruction, specializing in commercial dance styles such as jazz funk and hip hop, but my company has now grown into being an entity for dance conventions in Denver, selective dance intensives, specialty choreography, and empowering young dancers to believe that they are brilliant just as they are. I, the owner, Megan Grabau, travel to a different city almost everyday of the week to teach master classes all across Colorado, and even travel to other states to teach. I think the biggest thing that sets MEG Productions apart from other dance organizations or dance choreographers is the intent behind what we do. In a very self centered industry, we realize that nothing we do in life is ever about us. The mission is always to help empower others and uplift others. With this intent, at MEG Productions conventions or events, or in classes, students excel and prove their own perceptions of their own limitations wrong. There is so much brilliance inside of every dancer and artist that sometimes just needs some encouragement to truly shine through.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I am not a huge believer in luck but I do believe in correct timing meeting preparation and hard work. I think there are instances that can’t fully be explained but I do believe that there is always a divine purpose.
