Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Mooney.
Hi Michelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been someone who builds things from the inside out.
My career began in nonprofit fundraising and operations, where I spent more than 15 years supporting executive teams, building systems, and helping mission-driven organizations grow sustainably. I became known as the person who could take complexity and turn it into clarity. Strategy, structure, and thoughtful execution have always been my sweet spot.
At the same time, travel was a huge part of my personal life. I’ve traveled to more than 40 countries, including an eight-month backpacking trip through Asia. Travel shaped how I see the world, how I parent, and how I think about money and opportunity.
Over time, friends and colleagues started asking how I was flying business class or taking international trips with kids without overspending. What began as helping a few friends optimize credit card points turned into something much bigger.
I launched Jetset with Points to help families and professionals use credit card points strategically. But as I worked with more clients, I realized they didn’t just want to earn points. They wanted help designing the actual experience. They wanted someone who understood both the financial strategy and the emotional side of travel.
So the business evolved.
Today, I combine points strategy with full-service travel planning. I help clients earn smarter, redeem better, and design elevated trips that feel intentional, not chaotic. It’s not about “hacking” travel. It’s about aligning your money, your time, and your life with how you actually want to experience the world.
We’re also preparing to relocate our family to Portugal later this year, which has added another layer to my work. I deeply understand what it means to use travel as a bridge to something bigger. Freedom, flexibility, and building a life that reflects your values.
Jetset with Points is really about that. Not just cheaper travel. Better travel. Smarter travel. And a life designed with intention.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road.
I started Jetset with Points while still working full-time in nonprofit leadership, raising young kids, and managing a lot behind the scenes. Building something new while already carrying a full plate required discipline, boundaries, and a lot of late-night brainstorming sessions.
One of the biggest challenges was clarity. In the beginning, I knew I was great at points strategy, but I was still figuring out how I wanted to position myself. Was I a points consultant? A travel advisor? An educator? It took time and real client work to understand that my strength was actually the intersection of strategy and experience design.
There’s also vulnerability in building something personal. When you attach your name to a brand, you feel every win and every quiet week. Learning to separate momentum from self-worth has been an important growth process.
And of course, entrepreneurship forces you to grow fast. You’re the marketer, the operations manager, the client strategist, and the visionary all at once. That stretch has been uncomfortable at times, but it’s also been incredibly empowering.
So no, it hasn’t been perfectly smooth. But every pivot and every learning curve has helped me build a business that feels more aligned, more intentional, and more sustainable.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jetset with Points?
Jetset with Points is a points & miles travel brand built for families and professionals who want to travel more.
At its core, my business sits at the intersection of smart money strategy and elevated travel. I help clients maximize credit card points intentionally, and I also plan full-service travel experiences from start to finish. That combination is what sets me apart.
A lot of people either teach points strategy or plan trips. I do both. I understand how to help someone earn and redeem points in a way that supports their real life goals, whether that’s an anniversary trip in Europe, a multi-generational family vacation, or positioning themselves for international relocation. And once the strategy is in place, I can design the actual experience, including hotels, transportation, activities, and logistics.
What I’m known for is clarity and calm. My background in nonprofit operations means I’m highly systems-driven and detail-oriented. Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed by options, blogs, YouTube videos, and credit card noise. I simplify it. I create a plan that makes sense for their spending habits, their timeline, and their travel style.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Jetset with Points has evolved without losing its foundation. It started as a points education platform. Today, it’s a comprehensive travel advisory rooted in intention. I didn’t pivot away from points. I expanded around them.
I want readers to know this: travel doesn’t have to feel chaotic, confusing, or financially reckless. With the right strategy and thoughtful planning, it can feel empowering. It can reflect your values. It can expand your children’s worldview. It can support the life you’re building.
Jetset with Points isn’t about hacking the system. It’s about using it wisely so you can experience the world in a way that feels aligned, elevated, and sustainable.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think we’re entering a really interesting chapter in the travel industry.
Over the next five to ten years, I see three major shifts.
First, personalization will become non-negotiable. Travelers are no longer satisfied with generic itineraries or one-size-fits-all rewards advice. With so much information online, what people actually want is discernment. They want someone who understands their lifestyle, their budget, their family dynamic, and can design something tailored. The role of a travel advisor is shifting from “booking agent” to strategic partner.
Second, points and miles strategy is becoming more complex. Banks are constantly adjusting welcome bonuses, transfer partners, and benefits. Airlines and hotels are devaluing loyalty programs more frequently. Casual hobbyists will find it harder to keep up. That creates more demand for professionals who understand both the technical side of rewards programs and how to apply them intelligently.
Third, I see a strong shift toward values-driven travel. Families are prioritizing experiences over things. Parents want their kids exposed to different cultures. Professionals are blending work and travel more intentionally. And more people are exploring relocation or extended stays abroad. Travel is no longer just a vacation. It’s becoming a lifestyle component.
I also believe AI will streamline parts of the booking process, but it won’t replace human strategy. In fact, it may amplify the need for human advisors who can filter information and apply judgment.
Overall, the industry is moving toward smarter, more intentional travel. Less about volume. More about alignment. And I think advisors who can combine financial strategy, thoughtful planning, and human insight will be the ones who thrive.
