Exploring Life & Business with Natalie Ipsen of Holaimpact

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Ipsen.

Natalie Ipsen

Hi Natalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Colombia, and I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Even before graduating as an accountant, I launched a nonprofit organization focused on social impact. Unlike most professionals, I never had to submit a résumé—my work spoke for itself, and my client portfolio grew through word-of-mouth recommendations. I focused on delivering organized, results-driven proposals, which helped me establish a solid reputation.

Four years after registering my nonprofit, I had gained significant experience managing projects while working with other nonprofit organizations as an accountant. By then, I had also completed my master’s in project management, so when the right opportunity came, I was ready. I successfully led a social impact project in the public health sector, benefiting pregnant women and malnourished children. This milestone was a turning point in my journey—it made me realize that if I wanted to expand my impact globally, I needed to master English.

Determined to take my skills to the next level, I made the bold decision to start from scratch in Ireland. I studied, worked, and traveled across Europe and Asia, immersing myself in different cultures and languages. Despite years of studying English in school and university—even investing in private courses—real progress only came through real-life immersion. Being exposed to different accents, dialects, and everyday conversations was the key to achieving fluency. That experience opened my eyes to a universal challenge: traditional language education has limitations. No matter where you are, the missing piece for most learners is access to meaningful, real-time conversations with native speakers.

This realization led to the birth of HolaImpact. I envisioned a platform where learners could engage in immersive, authentic conversations with native speakers, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application. But HolaImpact is more than just a language-learning tool—it’s a social enterprise that empowers native speakers, particularly women in vulnerable communities, by providing them with a dignified income opportunity.

By late December, I knew it was time to take action. On January 1, 2024, I committed to moving forward, starting with just a basic webpage to outline the concept. I actively looked for ways to validate my idea and spread the word. That’s when I found EforAll and decided to enter their Pitch Contest. It was my first time publicly sharing the vision behind HolaImpact, and to my surprise, I won first place. This recognition reinforced the potential of my idea and gave me the confidence to take the next step.

Motivated by that success, I joined the EforAll accelerator program, where I had the incredible opportunity to work with mentors and specialists across various business areas—all of this at no cost. Week after week, I gained valuable insights into finance, marketing, branding, and legal compliance, transforming my initial idea into a structured, sustainable business model.

Today, HolaImpact is ready to launch. We already have a growing waitlist of eager learners, and my vision extends beyond Spanish. In the future, I hope to expand into other languages like English, French, and Mandarin, creating global connections while making language learning more accessible and impactful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—entrepreneurship rarely is. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is self-doubt. Believing in yourself is crucial, but it’s easier said than done, especially when stepping into something new and uncertain. Impostor syndrome has been a constant companion, particularly as a woman in social entrepreneurship. There were moments when I questioned whether I had what it takes, whether my vision was strong enough, or whether people would take me seriously.

Another major challenge has been the lack of a strong network. Unlike traditional industries where clear career paths and support systems exist, social entrepreneurship can feel isolating, especially when you’re building something from scratch. Finding the right mentors, collaborators, and supporters takes time, and in the beginning, I often felt like I was navigating uncharted territory alone.

Access to funding and resources is another hurdle. Many investment opportunities prioritize high-growth, tech-driven startups, and social enterprises don’t always fit that mold. Convincing people that impact-driven businesses can also be financially sustainable has been an ongoing challenge.

Despite these obstacles, every struggle has taught me something valuable. I’ve learned that self-doubt doesn’t mean you’re unqualified—it just means you’re pushing beyond your comfort zone. I’ve realized that networks aren’t built overnight, but with intentionality and persistence, the right people start showing up. And most importantly, I’ve understood that the biggest limitations are often the ones we place on ourselves.

The journey hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Every challenge has shaped me into a more resilient, resourceful entrepreneur, and I know that each step forward—no matter how small—brings me closer to creating the impact I envision with HolaImpact.

As you know, we’re big fans of holaimpact. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
HolaImpact is more than just a language learning platform—it’s a social enterprise on a mission to bridge the gap between language learners and native speakers while creating meaningful economic opportunities. We specialize in helping people achieve fluency in Spanish through natural, real-life conversations with native speakers. But what truly sets us apart is our dual impact: while learners gain confidence and improve their Spanish, native Spanish speakers—particularly women from vulnerable backgrounds—gain financial independence by getting paid to facilitate these conversations.

We believe that true language fluency doesn’t come from textbooks alone—it comes from real, engaging interactions. That’s why we focus on human connection, providing a safe, structured, and accessible environment where learners can practice Spanish with native speakers who bring cultural richness and authenticity to each conversation.

What makes HolaImpact unique?
✅ A social-first approach – We’re not just teaching Spanish; we’re creating a system where both learners and native speakers benefit.
✅ Authentic conversation-based learning – No rigid lessons, just real, meaningful dialogue that mimics how languages are learned in everyday life.
✅ A supportive and engaging community – We make language learning fun, immersive, and impact-driven.

What are we most proud of? The fact that we’re changing lives on both sides. Language learners gain confidence, expand their opportunities, and build real-world fluency. Meanwhile, native speakers, many of whom face economic challenges, earn dignified income by sharing their language and culture.

For anyone looking to speak Spanish with confidence while making a difference, HolaImpact offers personalized conversation sessions, structured challenges, and community-driven programs that help learners break through language barriers in a meaningful way.

At its core, HolaImpact is about empowering people through language—one conversation at a time.
