Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Bolin.
Hi Rachel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t always dream in buttercream, sprinkles, and dough. Once upon a time, I thought I’d be a veterinarian! I quickly realized that the inside of animals made me faint faster than a souffle in a thunderstorm. So I jumped to something that’s always made my heart happy, baking!
After culinary school, I worked in some of Denver and Boulder’s upscale kitchens and hotels crafting wedding cakes and desserts. But then my heart pulled me somewhere else. I found joy working in senior living, where I could really impact daily lives.
Then came my greatest ingredients! Mia in 2015 and Caleb in 2016. Both were diagnosed with autism before they turned two, and I knew I needed to be home, fully present. My husband took care of our family, and I took care of our kiddos. That’s when Buttercream Sprinkles was born! Right from my kitchen, with love, flour, and a whole lot of purpose. I got my Cottage House Certificate and started cranking out orders!
Eight years later, I’m still whisking away. My little bakery helps cover therapy costs and supports our family, but it’s also become a way to spread joy. I donate all profits from my dog birthday cakes to the Colorado Saint Bernard Rescue (because who doesn’t love a slobbery celebration?). I also gift cakes to senior homes and children facing tough medical journeys because a little kindness goes a long way!
I recently made it official with an LLC and I’m dreaming bigger: collaborating with companies for events, meetings, and maybe even a few surprise parties. I’m a homebody and introvert at heart, but if you bring up baking or a custom order idea, I’ll talk your ear off with enthusiasm and sprinkles.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business from home sounds sweet, and it is! But it’s also sticky, unpredictable, and full of surprises. When I launched Buttercream Sprinkles, I wasn’t just juggling piping bags and cookie cutters. I was navigating autism therapies, sleepless nights, and the emotional rollercoaster of parenting two amazing kids with unique needs, fostering Saint Bernards, and taking care of our current Saint Bernards.
There were days when the frosting wouldn’t set, the altitude betrayed a recipe I was coming up with , or I’d be elbow-deep in batter while trying to schedule appointments. I’ve baked through tears, exhaustion, and moments of doubt.
Marketing as a homebody introvert? That’s a whole other challenge. I’ve had to push past the fear of putting myself out there, learning to speak up for my business while still staying true to my cozy, quiet nature.
But every struggle has shaped the flavor of this journey. It’s made me more resourceful, more empathetic, and more determined to spread joy. One cupcake, one dog cake, one donated treat at a time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Buttercream Sprinkles LLC.?

Looking ahead, I dream of opening a small storefront, a cozy space filled with the scent of fresh bakes and the spirit of inclusion. My heart is bursting to have a business that employs individuals with disabilities, offering not just jobs but a place to shine, grow, and feel celebrated.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is my husband Rodney, who’s the calm to my chaos. My kids, Mia and Caleb, light up my world with their unique brilliance, strength, and boundless energy. Our two lovable pups, Ethel and Milo. My two best friends Tarah and Jenna, who help keep me grounded and sane some days! I find peace on the trails, whether I’m hiking through Colorado’s mountains or taking a long run on some trails. When I’m back home, nothing beats the baking, flour flying, cinnamon swirling, and the sweet satisfaction of turning simple ingredients into something that makes people smile. It’s a life full of love, constant moving, and just the right amount of buttercream.
