Exploring Life & Business with Regard Tang of Regarding Energy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Regard Tang.

Regard Tang

Hi Regard, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began as a professional makeup artist in the fashion and commercial industry. In 2010, I returned to my hometown of Hong Kong to undergo makeup training and obtain certifications. Following the program, I flew back to San Francisco to embark on my makeup career journey. In the early stages, I found myself working on bridal makeup, despite knowing my heart was in the fashion realm. You have to start somewhere, right?

After a year and a half, a deep conviction led me to move to LA to pursue my dreams. With minimal savings, I packed my belongings into a car and ventured to LA without a clear plan or many connections. My passion drove me, and I knew that staying in SF wouldn’t allow me to grow as fast as I desired. After two years in LA, my heart whispered that my next move was to New York. While LA had been a valuable learning experience, it never felt like home.

In 2015, I made the decision to sell my car and use my $13k in savings to move across the country. Let’s be real—$13k isn’t much for NYC, especially without a job waiting for me. I decided to move to NY without even visiting, a decision my parents struggled to understand. Despite their reservations, I repeated a similar action from the LA story, this time with only two suitcases and a carry-on.

75% of my luggage was filled with work equipment, makeup, and hair products. Moving to NY, I had only a couple of trusted friends and faced uncertainties about my living situation. It was a challenging beginning, but I pushed through, telling myself that if I failed, at least I tried. From savings that initially only covered six months, I ended up living in NY for 5.5 years.

In the first three months, I diligently emailed 30-50 professionals (photographers, makeup artists, agencies, producers, magazines, and more.) daily, ultimately landing an assistant job. While working my way up, I had the opportunity to collaborate with well-known brands and companies, with my first show from New York Fashion Week being Project Runway. The show didn’t automatically open doors like in Hallmark movies, but it was a significant confidence boost.

Despite the seemingly glamorous exterior of the fashion world, it’s a challenging industry, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally. Working on more prominent projects led to a lengthening resume but a simultaneous decline in happiness, plunging me into the deepest depression. I struggled to identify myself because the fashion world doesn’t prioritize mental health. Every day, as I looked in the mirror, I disliked myself, I lost joy and happiness. My depression worsened over time and it lasted about 15 years.

The pandemic was hard for every one of us, however, it was also a blessing for me. With sets and companies closed, I couldn’t afford to stay in NYC without an income. Consequently, I had to move to Las Vegas and live with my parents. Moving into their house as an adult posed challenges, as it felt like I lost my freedom and was under my parents’ microscope.

Despite having a strong relationship with my parents, the move brought to light the need to heal our relationship. Although we had a solid foundation, I harbored resentment from feeling like I grew up with abandonment. I moved to the States from Hong Kong when I was 11 years old. My parents only stayed for the first couple of months and they came to visit me once every 6 months or so.

So I pretty much grew up by myself. Living with my parents was a difficult lesson to overcome, requiring reflection and responsibility to heal. While my parents are loving, living in the same house led to disagreements and triggering moments. The first year and a half were challenging, I felt like no matter how much inner work I put in, I didn’t get the result that I was looking for.

As I delved into inner work and healing, a magical moment occurred in December 2021. At a spiritual event, my spiritual gift as an energy healer/medium was unveiled. I had been a hyper empath since I was young, able to feel others’ emotions. Friends often likened me to a human lie detector, discerning truth and underlying emotions. I never thought I had a unique gift until that event, where I channeled and downloaded information from spirit guides for others, giving readings. Rather than shying away, I embraced my gift.

The event host became my first mentor, and in the first year, I gave over a hundred readings. My clients often shared stories of emotional wounds and ancestral traumas. Shortly after I developed my gift, I finally understood what my purpose in this world is: to help others connect with their emotions while releasing the stories passed down from their family.

My journey from a makeup artist to a medium is far from a typical story. However, my life mission remains consistent — to help others connect with themselves. As a makeup artist, I aim to help others to feel beautiful inside out. Now, as an energy healer/medium, I guide clients to understand their ancestors’ behind-the-scenes stories, providing an emotional blueprint to release old beliefs. Many people feel stuck due to inherited programs, and I’m grateful to have this gift, guiding others to break free from their painful stories.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I strongly believe that if someone is experiencing a smooth road in their journey, they are either in a very comfortable stage of life or ignoring the facts that are bothering them. As I have mentioned, I struggled with depression for an extensive period. I was a happy child, and my family was in the middle class when I was in Hong Kong, so there wasn’t too much negativity that bothered me.

When my parents decided to send me to the States at the age of 11 for a better education, everything changed. Their intention was terrific, and because of their decision, I now speak three languages and have a bright future/career. However, the cost was growing up without my parents physically close to me. Like many, I experienced childhood trauma, and this trauma led me to believe I wasn’t enough because my parents sent me away. I held onto that story until my late 30s.

I struggled with a lack of self-worth and confidence for the longest time. When others complimented me, I always brushed it off. I never believed I was good at my craft. In the fashion industry, where everyone is replaceable, I constantly questioned whether I was good enough.

The industry is highly competitive with many talented artists. Hence, I was always on the edge, fighting for myself. Depression was eating me alive. Eventually, I reached a point where I wanted my happiness back, so I decided to seek help. It took a lot of therapy, self-development, and self-awareness to discover who I truly am.

An inspiring story comes from facing many challenges. I’m happy to say that after numerous therapy sessions, I underwent a lot of difficult inner work and experienced spiritual growth, I walked out of 15 years of depression last year. Understand how to communicate with others regarding boundaries and truly value myself. And yes, my journey is absolutely on the right path with the speed it’s meant to be.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Regarding Energy is my current love and passion. I’ve been running this business for a little over two years. Within the first year, I provided over a hundred readings. Being an energy healer and medium is not just a title; I also serve as my clients’ accountability partner and guide.

In my practice, I specialize in emotional trauma healing and ancestral trauma healing. Many people operate in people-pleaser mode, especially females. Others tend to self-sabotage and/or procrastinate due to not feeling enough or worthy of love. As humans, we are deeply rooted in our parents’/caregivers’ programming and belief systems. Yes, generational/ancestral trauma is a real thing.

Many people might experience feeling stuck in life, but not everyone completely understands how to get out of the stuck energy. When my clients come to me, I ask them to provide just 3 to 5 sentences about what is blocking them, what they want to overcome, and what they want to release.

Without them telling me much of a story, I’m able to get behind the scenes and understand the family/ancestor dynamic. Within the first 15-30 minutes of the session, I can download the blueprint for my client, understanding what is blocking them and how I can help them release the stuck energy.

What sets me apart from other healers/mediums? I would use three words to describe myself and my brand: genuine, authentic, and caring. I don’t just give my clients a reading and leave them to deal with the information. I’m a heart-centered person; I use love, compassion, and support to guide my clients.

Sometimes, when my clients can’t process the sadness, I cry for them during the session so they can release the stuck energies. I don’t believe healing services are just a transaction; when clients come to me, it’s my job to build trust and rapport while delivering the message.

As for offerings, I provide single sessions and a three-session emotional transformation program at the moment. A single session is for someone who wants to connect with their loved one and receive a quick message download from the client’s spirit guides. It is meant for someone who just needs quick guidance.

The emotional transformation program is for someone serious about breaking free from the stuck life and eliminating old patterns such as people-pleasing, self-sabotage, and lack of self-worth. By the end of the program, my clients have witnessed change and gained awareness to move away from old patterns.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I always encourage others to try new things and take risks. You are the author of your book. If you never try, you never know. I understand not everyone is adventurous, but if you are comfortable, you aren’t growing. Not everyone is meant to move across the country, change careers with passion, or sell everything they own to start a new life in a different country.

However, risk-taking can be as simple as starting a passion project that makes you feel uncomfortable yet fulfilled. I always ask others, do you have any regrets that you can fix? If so, go do those things and make yourself happy. Risk-taking doesn’t guarantee happiness, but your heart is whispering to you that your soul is longing for change. Happiness comes from within, and you are responsible for making yourself happy and fulfilled.

As for my risk-taking, I am absolutely a risk-taker. (Please refer back to my story.) After living in Las Vegas for three years to heal my relationship with my parents, I knew it was time to try a new city. I visited Denver a few times, and when I moved last year in October, I only had my best friend without knowing anyone. It was a calculated risk, but I knew it was the best choice for my personal and business growth. After a few months of being here, I have a solid community and new friends.
