Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Scott.
Hi Rodney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ultimately, I wanted to be in control of my schedule and experience financial freedom as most owners set out to do. I knew in order for that to happen I had to make a bigger impact and be able to clearly convey my brand messaging. So, I used the same principles I picked up from my M.B.A courses on how to properly identify my target audience and establish a unique brand character and solely focus on them. That involved finding a problem and providing a solution I was passionate about which was helping individuals who were struggling with hair loss. I really wanted to show my children you can truly create your own success so I knew I needed to plan things out which I was also able to show them the steps along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a struggle but I do remember the process of seeking an out an effective trainer taking a while only because I wanted to ensure I was training with a well-known company with a proven track record. Besides that, I’d say the stigma that come along with the sensitive topic of hair loss in general. A lot of people want to have that conversation but don’t really know where to start so they often hold off so it’s really all about education and awareness. We strive to educate the individuals who are not familiar with scalp micro pigmentation in order for the industry to grow.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Edje Skin Scalp Micropigmentation?
I’m the owner and lead technician at Edje Skin Studio a premier provider of Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), Barbering, and Skin Care services. As a barber of 15 plus years, I’ve always loved the confidence boost these services provide. At Edje our main service is Scalp Micropigmentation which in short is essentially a cosmetic tattoo that gives the look of a short haircut and can fill in any balding or thinning areas that blend right in with the existing hair. It’s a paramedical procedure that provides hyper-realistic results and it is great for men and women.
SMP has been getting a lot of attention lately because in terms of hair loss solutions it’s much longer term than the dyes and fibers on the market currently. It’s also far more affordable than alternatives such as hair transplants which can be upwards to $12k and SMP is a fraction of that. As more people discover how safe and easy it is they are opting for the many benefits of SMP. The industry has changed from very limited exposure to more artists becoming instructors and holding classroom trainings on SMP allowing new artists to start providing it in more cities. It’s becoming more commercial as society evolves to make life easier by giving clients carefree results that allow them to just wake up and go.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I just feel that continuously striving to be better every day is paramount. This industry is based around artistry and practice is what’s needed to put out better results than you did yesterday so for me it’s definitely persistence. Also not being motivated by earnings but being dedicated to putting out consistently great results.
