Exploring Life & Business with Stephanie Villavicencio of Tits Deep for Breast Cancer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Villavicencio.

Stephanie Villavicencio

Hi Stephanie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Tits Deep for Breast Cancer to help raise funds for my best friend’s breast cancer treatment. I never thought it would evolve into a non-profit organization! But after a few days of selling stickers, I realized I had created something that wasn’t going to just go away. Within a few weeks we not only hit beyond our fundraising goal, but we also impacted a lot of people. That’s when I realized that I needed to keep going.

Tits Deep for Breast Cancer’s mission has grown to provide advocacy, outreach, and support to young women seeking breast cancer treatment. We have a small team of ambassadors and a board of directors who are continuing to expand our mission and help us stand out in the community!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it has been a smooth road. I started Tits Deep to help a friend. There was no other intention than that. So going into it, I told myself that I was going to enjoy the journey. Slow down if things ever get too stressful. And embrace everything that comes my way. I’ve had a few struggles here and there, but nothing that ever deterred me from moving forward. This work is too important for me to stop.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the founder and executive director. Since we are still very small I do the majority of the planning, organizing, networking, etc. I think what sets us apart from others is that our approach is very inclusive. We try our best to ensure that everyone feels seen, heard, and felt.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the merchandise I’ve helped create. I always told myself that we wouldn’t be a breast cancer organization that smothers themselves in ribbons or too much pink. I like to create curiosity so when people see a shirt that just says ‘Tits Deep’, it usually creates curiosity which leads to conversations that ultimately lead to spreading awareness around a hard-to-talk-about matter. By purchasing from our online store, you are supporting a young woman seeking breast cancer treatment. Thank you!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Find someone who has skills that you don’t. Who you can turn to for advice and learning. Don’t be afraid to seek mentorship. You’d be surprised that the person you’re asking will probably be honored to help you!

I am a huge fan of networking. I strongly believe that everyone has something to give and share. I love to put small business owners in our community in touch when I see that they might benefit from one another. And oftentimes it leads to amazing opportunities for them! I’ve even made lots of friends just by putting myself out there. Collaboration is key! If you feel drawn to reaching out, please don’t hesitate, it’s just me on the other side of that email or DM.
