Exploring Life & Business with Sydney Oberholtzer of The Set Up Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Oberholtzer. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Before hosting The Set Up, Sydney worked for Rolling Stone Magazine as the Brand Partnerships Manager, leading the integrated marketing programs between the magazine and Fortune 500 advertisers. She had the privilege of working across talent relations, experiential, video production, and editorial to produce curated events and content in an effort to promote product launches and significant brand awareness.

Sydney has recently worked independently to create experiences for artists, local productions, and music festivals like Firefly Music Festival and Lollapalooza. Her approach involves the Return on Emotion. For any brand, the biggest achievement and measure of success should be to build trust and loyalty amongst their consumers. In time, their fans and consumers will feel connected and invest their time back into the brands that have supported them.

After pivoting her career from the corporate world to business owner, Sydney has met many professionals who work behind the scenes to create phenomenal and thought-provoking experiences. As a result, she had one goal in mind, she wanted to give all of the beautiful, artistic individuals and creators a platform to share their stories, connect and help those who seek similar paths.

Her mission is to build a community for music industry professionals and educate others of the work that happens behind the scenes.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In a way, it has been better than expected.

The hardest obstacle I have faced was leaving a job that I was passionate. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how good you are at your job, you can still be dispensable. The reality quickly set in and luckily it prepared me for the pandemic.

I learned the value of relationships early on. In fact, that is how I landed every client and project I have had for the last 5 years.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Set Up Podcast. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Set Up is a passion project I started as a platform for voices behind the scenes in music. Every week, The Set Up Podcast navigates a new topic with the most disruptive minds in the music industry―turning their experiences working behind the scenes into actionable advice you can use in your life no matter your background.

The Set Up is a place for passionate creatives who want to pave their own path.

I am the host, producer, and marketer for the podcast.

A major part of my business is marketing services and consultations. I mostly work with tech companies that are leveling up, need exposure, or need help launching new campaigns. I dive deep with brands, get to know their history, what they are comfortable with, and oversee a marketing strategy that I recommend to fits their goals.

I am also an advocate for artists. I provide marketing services for emerging artists. I use my experience working with brands to help artists get their music heard.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
