Exploring Life & Business with Syp Board Members of SUDO Youth Project

Today we’d like to introduce you to Syp Board Members.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
South Sudanese youth face challenges navigating being first generation Americans. We saw an opportunity to address these challenges by creating a space where identity, culture, and community thrive. SUDO Youth Project officially started in 2023, however this project has been in the works for years. Our journey began with a shared dream to build a safe and supportive community for South Sudanese youth that honors our rich heritage and fosters meaningful connections. Our name, SUDO Youth Project, carries a dual significance. ‘SUDO’ not only represents South Sudanese people but also stands for ‘Striving to Unite and Develop Our Own.’ This dual meaning reflects our commitment to both cultural identity and community empowerment. We aim to inspire and uplift South Sudanese youth, providing support, community events, and resources to help them embrace their identities and contribute positively to society.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey has not been easy. We initially faced struggles establishing a team. Building an organization from the ground up we faced challenges with securing resources, gaining community trust, coordinating events with a limited budget , and establishing roles where everyone feels valued. Despite these challenges we have remained resilient and have stayed committed to our mission to unite and empower South Sudanese Youth. The road may have been rocky, but we are proud of what we have accomplished so far!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
SUDO Youth Project (SYP) is dedicated to building a supportive community through initiatives that foster healing, vulnerability, and connection. We celebrate South Sudanese cultural heritage while addressing current challenges to promote healthy relationships and self-discovery. By engaging with both the younger and older generations, we aim to bridge the gap between traditional South Sudanese and American values, encouraging collaboration and understanding. Our approach emphasizes the transformative power of mentorship and the importance of passing on knowledge and support within the community.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are excited to collaborate with organizations that align with our mission and expand the reach of SYP.
