Hi The Other Side Movers, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Other Side Movers started in Salt Lake City as a social enterprise of The Other Side Academy. In 2015, The Other Side Academy was founded with the goal to help people leaving prison or recovering from addiction rebuild their lives through meaningful work. The program is free to those who attend, so to keep the doors open The Other Side Movers provide a means to generate revenue for the Academy. In 2019 we expanded to Denver and started another campus and moving company. Since then, our Denver movers have received over 1500 five star reviews on Google, Yelp, and Thumbtack. Our customers continue to choose us for their moving needs because of our professionalism, quality of work, transparency, reliability, mission driven purpose, and social impact.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting out with just one truck and a few movers, it took time for us to gain traction. Denver didn’t know who we were and it took time to build a reputation and prove we are among the best at what we do. Slowly, but surely, we were able to add another truck after year one and two trucks the following year. At this point, we have 11 moving trucks and a warehouse to operate out of.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Other Side Movers?
We offer residential and commercial moving services within the state of Colorado. What sets us apart from other moving companies is we are doing this work to save our lives. Since we are part of The Other Side Academy, a nonprofit/residential life skills program, our crews are made up of people overcoming addiction, former felons, etc., who are being given a second chance. Our customers aren’t just paying for moving services—they’re contributing to someone’s recovery and reintegration into society. That sense of purpose is important to many, including ourselves. We work that much harder to maintain a reputation not just for doing the job, but doing it with care and a sense of pride.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
We let our work speak for itself. People share their experiences with others and we end up getting the majority of our work via word of mouth.
