Exploring Life & Business with Troe Williams of Vandalism Desings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Troe Williams.

Hi Troe, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a fashion and interior designer celebrating 34 solid years of business. I have wanted to be a fashion designer since childhood. I started Vandalism Designs when I was 17. Had some brief training in Detroit. Shortly after I started working with clients from all walks of life and still do. I have always believed everyone wants to look good and feel good in that look. In my career, my tallest male has been 6’9 and the shortest 5’1. My tallest woman has been 6’3 and the shortest 4’11.

Vandalism Designs make everything you can wear but hard bottom shoes. Collections include fashion, accessories, leather goods, bridal, outerwear, sport, resort, costuming for stage, screen, and television. Interior from residential to commercial and all points in between. There are even jewelry and bath collections as well.

I solely believe dressing affects your mood, so I love seeing people dressed well that includes fit, cut, fabrication, and color. I also believe clothing is meant to reflect some of the personality of the wearer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In my experience, I find the greatest challenge has been to get people to realize the amount of time and effort it takes to produce timeless well-made goods. A lesser-known fact for fashion designers is you can not copyright your work. So it is difficult to really get people outside the industry to understand how big of an issue that is for a fashion house. Lastly, money and resources especially if you choose to remain an Haute Couture business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vandalism Designs is a complete fashion house offering custom goods for every occasion as well as commercial and residential interiors, leather goods, custom jewelry, set design for TV, and movies. The company is known for one-of-a-kind pieces. What sets us apart is we do not duplicate pieces.

Brand wise most proud of the fact the clothing is known by sight.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite types of books to read are books of poetry or short stories from Poe to unknowns. Also, I love to read how-to books and autobiographies. Stay too busy usually to be on apps and podcasts. I listen to music nonstop.
