Exploring Life & Business with Zaidy Charron of Zaidy Charron Ayurveda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaidy Charron

Hi Zaidy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and I’ve always found great solace in nature. Growing up in Park Hill, we had a beautiful garden, and I loved gathering plants and flowers, making potions, and pretending they were herbal medicines. Even as a child, I longed for someone to teach me more about herbalism.

As I got older, my grandmother would share old remedies passed down through generations in the mountains of Puerto Rico, teaching me about clearing intestinal parasites and even performing a memorable limpieza (spiritual cleansing). These traditions sparked my curiosity and planted the seeds for what would later become my career.

My journey deepened when I discovered yoga, which helped me significantly with anxiety. I was already passionate about cooking, plants, and permaculture, but yoga opened me up to something even greater. One day, a woman named Sayana from Mysore, India, visited my Ashtanga yoga studio and prepared us an Ayurvedic meal. That experience left a profound and lasting impact on me—it wasn’t just food; it felt like nourishment on a cellular level. I felt elevated, light, and alive after eating that meal and knew I needed to learn more about Ayurveda.

I decided that if I was going to study Ayurveda, I would fully commit and seek the highest level of education I could find in the United States. That’s when I discovered my teacher, Alakananda Ma, at the Alandi Ashram in Boulder, Colorado. I studied and apprenticed under her for four years, dedicating myself to over 4,000 hours of clinical and educational experience in Ayurvedic medicine. It was an intensive program, meeting four days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but it transformed my understanding of health, wellness, and the healing power of nature.

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of medicine rooted in India that emphasizes the balance of mind, body, and spirit through diet, lifestyle, herbs, and natural therapies. It teaches us to align with the rhythms of nature and recognize the unique constitution of each individual, offering personalized approaches to health and healing.

After graduating, I started my own clinic in Denver, as well as an online clinic. I also co-founded an herbal product line called Oso Botanicals, named after one of my favorite herbs. We create face oils, tinctures, and other products, and we’re currently finalizing formulas for parasite and candida cleanses. This spring, we’ll be leading group cleanses. I’m also working on my first book about Ayurveda with an old classmate, set to be released later this year.

One of the most meaningful parts of my time at Alandi was foraging with my teachers, Alakananda Ma and Sadanandaji, in Boulder. Whether we were picking apples or gathering mushrooms deep in the woods, I developed a deep love for foraging. This passion led me to dedicate countless hours to studying botany, plant identification, and the local and indigenous plants of the Rocky Mountains.

When most people go on a walk in Denver or a hike in Boulder, they see plants and weeds. What I see is medicine and a grocery store. Foraging has given me a profound sense of connection, confidence, and sovereignty, and I knew I wanted to share that gift with others.

Last summer, I began leading foraging tours in Boulder, and this year I’m expanding to areas like Breckenridge and Salida. My intention is to help people connect with the land, rediscover ancient wisdom, and foster a deeper relationship with nature. Foraging isn’t just about gathering plants—it’s about reclaiming our connection to the earth and ourselves.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been smooth—it’s been a path of dedication, resilience, and a lot of explaining. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is that Ayurveda is not widely known or understood in the Western world. Often, I find myself educating people from the ground up about what Ayurveda is, its depth, and its transformative potential. Explaining its principles and how it can support people’s health requires patience, especially when many view it as “just herbs” or think it’s similar to trendy wellness fads. Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old medical system with immense power to heal and create balance, but conveying that depth in a way that resonates with people unfamiliar with it has been a significant challenge.

Another hurdle was dedicating so much time to my education while working full-time. During my studies at Alandi Ashram, I was committed to a rigorous program—four days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for four years. Outside of class, I worked to support myself financially, which often meant late nights, long hours, and very little free time. It was exhausting, both physically and mentally, but I knew that I was investing in something greater than myself.

Beyond that, starting my own clinic and product line has also come with its own set of challenges. Running a business rooted in Ayurveda means staying authentic to its principles while navigating the realities of the modern world, from marketing to product development. There’s a delicate balance between honoring the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and presenting it in a way that’s approachable and relatable to people today.

And of course, entrepreneurship itself isn’t easy. From sourcing high-quality ingredients to perfecting product formulations to building a client base, every step has required persistence and creativity. There were moments of doubt, especially early on, when I wondered if people would truly value what I was offering.

However, every challenge has also been an opportunity for growth. These struggles have taught me how to communicate Ayurveda in a way that connects with people, how to be resourceful, and how to trust in my purpose even when the path ahead feels uncertain. I’ve learned that the work of sharing Ayurveda is not just about education—it’s about planting seeds of curiosity and connection, and those seeds grow over time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Zaidy Charron Ayurveda ?
My business is a reflection of my deep passion for Ayurveda, holistic health, and helping people connect to their true nature. At my clinic in Denver, as well as my online clinic, I work with clients one-on-one to help them achieve balance and health through Ayurvedic medicine. My offerings include personalized consultations where I assess their unique constitution (prakriti) and current imbalances (vikriti) and guide them with customized diet plans, herbal remedies, lifestyle practices, and detoxification programs. I specialize in addressing digestion, stress, hormonal health, and sleep challenges, but Ayurveda’s beauty is that it works with the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is uncovering the root cause of someone’s health challenges. My favorite cases are the ones that feel like a puzzle—piece by piece, we put the clues together to reveal the bigger picture. It’s like playing the role of a detective, diving deep into the interconnectedness of a person’s body, mind, and lifestyle to uncover the source of their imbalance. That process of discovery and empowerment is what makes this work so fulfilling for me.

In addition to my clinic work, I lead Ayurvedic trainings and workshops for a variety of audiences, including wellness professionals, retreat participants, and anyone curious about holistic health. These sessions are designed to provide a deeper understanding of Ayurveda and how its principles can be applied to everyday life. Whether I’m teaching the fundamentals of Ayurvedic wisdom, guiding participants through seasonal practices, or helping them explore Ayurvedic self-care rituals, my goal is to make this ancient knowledge accessible, practical, and transformative for modern lifestyles.

Another unique offering is the foraging tours I lead in Colorado. These tours are an opportunity for participants to learn about local plants, their medicinal and culinary uses, and the incredible abundance of nature. My goal is to teach people how to see the land differently—not just as a backdrop for a hike but as a living, breathing source of nourishment and medicine. Whether we’re identifying wild herbs, gathering mushrooms, or discussing the cultural significance of certain plants, these tours foster a deep connection to the natural world and help people reclaim their sovereignty and confidence in sourcing food and medicine from the earth.

I’m also proud to co-own Oso Botanicals, an herbal product line inspired by Ayurvedic principles and bioregional herbalism. Our offerings include face oils, tinctures, and seasonal products. What makes Oso Botanicals unique is our commitment to quality and sustainability—we use ethically sourced and, whenever possible, wildcrafted ingredients. Our products are handmade with intention and care, offering natural solutions for skincare, digestion, and overall wellness. Right now, we’re working on parasite and candida cleansing formulas, which will be part of our upcoming group cleanses this spring.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the authenticity and integrity that runs through everything I do. Whether I’m working with a client, teaching a workshop, leading a foraging tour, or creating a product, my focus is on honoring the traditions of Ayurveda while making them accessible and relevant to modern life. I want people to know that Ayurveda isn’t just a system of medicine—it’s a way of living in harmony with nature, and my work is all about helping people tap into that.

Whether you’re looking for one-on-one support, education, an immersive experience in nature, or products that align with natural wellness, my goal is to meet people where they are and guide them toward balance and empowerment.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe that taking risks is an inevitable part of following your true calling. It’s rarely easy, but it’s often necessary for growth and alignment with your purpose. For me, one of the biggest risks I’ve taken was leaving an established and stable career in real estate after eight years to fully commit to the path I’m on now. Financially, socially, and mentally, it was a leap into the unknown. Starting over in a completely different field required grit, consistency, and resiliency.

This journey hasn’t been easy. There were moments of doubt, fear, and uncertainty—times when I questioned whether I could really make it work. But despite the challenges, I felt like I had no choice but to take the leap. It was a deep soul calling that I simply couldn’t ignore any longer. Every experience in my life had led me here—to Ayurveda, herbalism, and teaching—and I knew that stepping away from the safety of my previous career was the only way to honor that calling.

Navigating this new path has required immense dedication and hard work. Building a business, educating others about Ayurveda, and earning trust in an unfamiliar field hasn’t happened overnight. It’s taken persistence, patience, and a willingness to embrace setbacks as part of the process. But despite the risks and challenges, I’ve never looked back.

I believe that when something feels deeply aligned and true to who you are, the risk of not pursuing it is far greater than the fear of the unknown. Taking risks doesn’t mean being reckless—it means trusting your intuition and being willing to move toward what lights you up, even when the path ahead is uncertain.

Ultimately, the risks I’ve taken have been worth it. This path has allowed me to create a life and career that are not only meaningful but also deeply connected to my purpose. It’s taught me that growth often lies just beyond our comfort zones and that with enough grit and resilience, you can carve out a life that feels truly aligned.
