Graffiti Johnson’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Graffiti Johnson. Check out our conversation below.

Graffiti, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I believe I am being called to step into a more formal space as an educator. Specifically with the youth in my community.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Leonard “Graffiti” Johnson. I am a cultural commentator, brand strategist, producer and music lover based in Denver, Colorado. I have dedicated my career to using audio and visual storytelling to empower communities and elevate underrepresented voices, especially here in Colorado where culture and connection are central to everything I do.

One of my main projects right now is The Connect w/Graffiti, a live conversational series that centers around meaningful conversations about mental health, creativity, success, and community impact. It is a platform built on authenticity, where guests including artists, entrepreneurs, educators, and changemakers share their stories and insights in ways that inspire and inform.

What makes my work unique is the combination of grassroots connection, cultural insight, and a deep focus on digital media. My mission is to create spaces where real stories are told and where diverse voices are supported and celebrated.

Right now, I am focused on expanding The Connect to a platform beyond just myself, and continuing to build media platforms and spaces that reflect the creativity, passion, and power of our communities.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I believe the part of me that feels the constantly need to carry the weight of the world and juggle all of my own issues and the issues of everyone around me, in a superman type fashion has served its purpose and I’m working on moving away from that mindset and allowing myself to protect my own mental capacity.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. Everyday. As the industry, media landscape and society is rapidly changing and as I grow and mature mentally and spiritually as a man, husband, father, creative etc. I constantly question if some of the things I do professional are worth the energy I’ve been putting into it at this stage in life, and if I even really want to do it anymore. Knowing when to pivot or simply let go and evolve is crucial.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies is that numbers, clicks, views and likes equate to success as a person. What good is a thousand views on social media from people whom may or may not actually even be real, if you cant carry that same influence in real life outside of these screens. I’ll take real life impact and valuable human connections over social clout and viral hype any day.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Love. Integrity. Honor. Values. Knowledge of self. Faith and Culture.
