Hidden Gems: Meet Abby Rosenblum of The Social: Modern Matchmaking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Rosenblum.

Hi Abby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started at Rose Hospital back in 1993… just kidding… I won’t take you through the whole life story. Here’s what you might want to know: Denver native, background in television and production, moved back to Denver after time in Las Vegas and New York, and hit the dating apps like crazy. It was exhausting, but I “matchmade” myself with awesome guy I’m going to marry in a couple of weeks! September 18th is the day!

It was so difficult to find my person, so I wanted to create a way for my single friends to connect with genuine people. Matchmaking came to be with a more authentic, intentional, and accessible approach. Rather than sifting through a bunch of bots, fake profiles, and people who don’t know what they want, people hire myself and my team to set them up on great dates! I combined my expertise for storytelling and interviewing with my natural intuition to help connect great people. The Social: Modern Matchmaking was born in 2018 and just hit its three-year anniversary. This passion project has really exploded! I quit my day job in October 2020 to pursue matchmaking full-time, and haven’t looked back since. We now have a team of five, dedicated to bringing more love into the world.

Matchmaking is now taking a few different forms. This summer I started a media matchmaking company, Disrupticity, to help book entrepreneurs on the right media/platforms to grow their brand and audience. Stay tuned for the next steps in my matchmaking empire.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? I don’t think anyone would answer this question saying it has been easy! I do feel very lucky that the pandemic helped launch my business, but there definitely have been struggles along the way. When COVID first hit, I thought I was going to fail. I couldn’t get anyone to sign up or even go on virtual dates, but wow did things turn around! This past year and half has shown me that sometimes the biggest wins can be hidden in your biggest struggles.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my biggest struggle, which is also my biggest joy: people. As a matchmaker, I talk to people when they’re happy, sad, upset, frustrated, overwhelmed and so much more. Working with me can be an emotional process – usually in a good way! Sometimes I work with people who just can’t get out of their own way and look within themselves as the problem with their dating lives. They think that working with a matchmaker, getting a new haircut or just meeting different people will change their experience, but it usually won’t. My biggest struggle is working to help people help themselves. Sometimes, I’m not fully equipped for that one, and it is truly a struggle. Fortunately, I’ve built a great network of resources to help people work on these issues!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We’re all about connecting singles in a more authentic and intentional way. That means, being present on dates, meeting quality people over a quantity of people, and being honest and respectful of others. We interview and background check every person we work with to make sure they’re ready for a serious relationship, have it together in terms of career and finances, and that they have some kind of dreams, goals, and passions in life.

We set up handpicked blind dates and host monthly singles events to help bring people together. Beyond dates, we also help people feel confident and ready to date! Our memberships include styling, coaching, hair, makeup, workshops, and much more. When you work with The Social: Modern Matchmaking you become a part of our community.

We are known as the premier matchmaking service in Colorado with a focus on Denver and Boulder. I am most proud of the personalized approach we have for each person we work with, and that we only work with people who we have fun being around. We end up attracting some pretty awesome folks!

Readers should know that we are all about spreading more love into the world and that’s how we work on making the world just a little better than we found it.
