Hidden Gems: Meet Alex Klimkoski of Klimko Production

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Klimkoski.

Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion for videography and photography. I was able to explore that passion a lot when I studied Media Production during my time in high school at Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester, Connecticut. After that, I studied film and broadcast journalism for 2 years at Emerson College in Boston. During my time there, I realized I wanted to start my own business. I left Emerson, went back to Connecticut, got a day job, and tried to pursue my dream.

One day I was offered a photography gig for a local theater group in Hartford. I took that opportunity to quit my day job and use it as a stepping stone to build my business. Since then, I have done weddings for multiple families, music videos for multiple local artists, concert and dance performances, portraits, and travel photography. I am now blessed to be working full time owning my own business, and traveling doing what I love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning your own business and building a brand always come with struggles. Income is always fluctuating and never guaranteed, and there is no security in that 9-5 life. The video/photo production industry is incredibly competitive and ever-changing. So, keeping up with equipment standards, and style trends, and securing clients is a constant battle. I gave up my day job with benefits and security to pursue a low-paying photography job that would only span 3 weeks.

I faced backlash from my family for leaving college early. I had to save more and spend less. I spent time doing odd-end jobs like walking dogs and working overnights a couple of nights a week while traveling to New York and Massachusetts for days and nights to record videos. I spent a lot of time doing free and low-cost shoots to get my work exposed and out there because, in the production world, the only way to justify prices is by showing work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about KLIMKO Production?
KLIMKO Productions is a video/photography production company owned by me, Alex Klimkoski. My absolute passion has always been to create content through photography and videography. I specialize in weddings, portraits, music videos, concert/performance videography, and photography, and also do some travel landscape/location photography.

I find what sets me apart from others is my desire and ability to tell a story whether that’s through an image or a video. My goal is to bring all of my client’s visions to life and take viewers into the moment that was captured. I’m always open to collaborating with new artists and working on new ideas and concepts. Storytelling and emotion are so important in my creative process and my goal is for viewers to see the product through the clients’ lens.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The next 5-10 years are going to look like a lot of growth. The video/photo industry is constantly evolving, and it’s up to me to make sure I keep up with the times. New cameras, lenses, editing programs, and creative styles are being released all the time. I’ve seen a lot of things like music videos starting to shit away from super heavy video effects, and I think that’s a trend that will stick around for a bit.

But it’s only a matter of time before trippy effect videos make their return. For me and my company specifically, I’m seeing a lot more weddings booked, as well as full concert video Livestream coverage being added to what I and my company can provide. I can’t wait to see what this industry brings in the future near and far as a whole and for me.
