Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Yang.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My life has always had the theme of care and journeying with people in hardship that mostly purely showed itself in playing with kids and being a listener. I started my career in counseling to follow my passion and love of giving. My career started in a hard place personally because after a nine year battle my younger sister died of cancer two months before I completed grad school. I got hired into the field as I walked to my car from my very last class and my grief set me up to start from a tender place rather than a confident one.
I worked in the foster and adoption care system and it taught me so much. I worked with families in their homes and got to see up close the range of what the breadth of love can do and also fall traumatically short. Unfortunately after three years I burned out and shifted to private practice.
I worked with a group practice to learn the ropes and work with people that had lower acuity of need. I thrived and got very comfortable. My now wife encouraged me to go off on my own. I since built a thriving practice serving kids, teens, adults, highly sensitive people and more recently started marketing towards people wanting to understand racial-cultural identity and reconcile wounds. I’ve been running my own business for seven years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Covid was difficult like it was for everyone, and for almost three years I worked almost exclusively with anxiety and depression due to the pandemic.
Since I worked with kids I am at the mercy of the school calendar, so breaks are always tough and a struggle emotionally to trust I’ll make it through the significant income losses.
People don’t realize that counseling is always a practice. Skills and empathy can atrophy. It is important to be honest with my competency and efficacy in helping others. It’s always humbling and exciting to find areas of growth as a result of struggles and challenges to try and stay sharp in practice.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Andy Yang Counseling ?
I specialize in working with kids, teens, male adults and highly sensitive people.
I’m known for my work with kids and teens, particularly with anxiety, ADHD, and navigating academic or social struggles. I’m known for my ability to make therapy more than just talk that is engaging, safe and relatable for people to understand, feel and apply. I’m most proud of the testimonies and word of mouth marketing that speaks for itself. I’m also most proud of my clients who put in the hard work to achieve their happiness and balance.
Feel free to check out my site to learn more about me and what I have to offer. I’m available for consultations if you’re interested in connecting.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
