Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy Moser
Hi Betsy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Chappaqua, N.Y. and graduated from University of Colorado with a BS in Sociology in 1971. When I graduated, I was offered a social worker job for $7500/year with Boulder County. I couldn’t live on that and had taken the Civil Service job for the Post Office while I was a senior at CU. I decided the base pay carrying mail of $15K was the way to go. I was the first lady city letter carrier in Greeley Colorado. They didn’t have women’s uniforms, restrooms, etc. It was a challenge to be doing a “man’s” job, but I was able to prove to them that I could it and even during two of my pregnancies I carried a baby and the mail until my 7th month. After carrying mail for 13 years, I decided to go into management in Sales. During my years in sales I was awarded numerous awards including a Special Achievement award for developing an International Bulk Mail program directly out of Denver to international drops throughout the world. The Postal Service also hired a law firm to work with me to patent my idea for an Electronic Passport program, but this was 30 years ago and the US State Department and Postal Service weren’t quite ready for it.
I retired after 32 years as a National Account Manager at the age of 55 and immediately went into Real Estate .I had passed the State Real Estate Exam while still working at the Postal Service. I had to work under an Employing Broker for 2 years and the day my 2 years was up, April 4, 2005, I opened my own office. Opening my office was a struggle because Metro Brokers felt that a virtual office was not going to work instead of a bricks and mortar office. I convinced them to give me a chance to prove it would work and I brought on 5 successful women to open. The concept took off because in 2005 Real Estate searches were being done on the internet and buyers and sellers were not concerned with big fancy offices. I rented a space from Regus Management and grew the office from 6 to 70 over the next few years. I still run the office in Broomfield and it’s still very successful.
I’m in my 22nd year of Real Estate and still going strong. I have Broker Associates under me and have been mentoring many Agents over the years. My business has been very successful and I’ve been able to build a strong relationship with many other Realtors throughout the Denver Metro Area. Many of my sellers and buyers have hired me to sell their homes and their kid’s homes over the many years. Relationships are everything and my reputation has enabled me to sustain through the foreclosure & short sale years as well as the wild “Covid” years. One of my favorite compliments from a buyer was that I reminded him of a “Mini Pitbull” because of my persistence and never giving up. Real Estate is a tough job with many layers along the way including the negotiation, difficult inspections and resolutions and keeping everything on track. I love what I do and will continue to keep helping my sellers and buyers in every way possible.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
1. When I attended Univ. of Colorado, I worked two jobs at Woolco and KMart as a checker and went to school full time. .I worked my way through the school and started a Printing business where I silk screened (a skill I learned in High School) monogrammed stationery for the Sorority girls. I would set up a card table outside of the Sorority House and had a sample book and they would order the stationery and I’d make enough money to help me purchase my college books.
1. As the first female letter carrier I had to prove to the men that I could do their job, but better. I carried mail during 2 pregnancies and never asked for help. Many of the male carriers thought it was wrong and that their “macho” job was not for women, especially pregnant women. I proved the wrong.
2. As a Realtor, being successful from 2005-2008 during the recession with Short Sales and Foreclosures, the market was tough and I had to work very hard to maintain my income and be creative. If I didn’t have any listings for Open Houses, I’d set up Open Houses at some of the properties in Foreclosure to meet prospective buyers. I never gave up and helped my agents get through the difficult time.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve owned my business for 22 years and have been a top producer during those years. My company offers buyers and sellers professional services to help them negotiate the sale of their home or purchase of a home. I am able to train the buyers while showing them homes, what to look for as future problems and help them get the best bang for their buck. I work with clients from Denver North to Loveland and offer my preferred vendors to help them with repairs and remodels. I’m not just a Realtor who signs them up and meets them at closing…I’m there the entire time to assist them through every step of the transaction.
One special service I’ve gotten into over the past 4 years is to help Seniors Downsize their homes, which includes selling, donating, storing their possessions as well as cleaning the home prior to the home sale. I have experienced Estate Sale providers who offer these services and make it so much easier for my sellers. I’m finding that the home sale is sometimes necessary to be able to pay for the future assisted or memory care of one or both sellers and I jump in to help in any way.
An added feature I offer besides my Real Estate expertise, is I try to make the experience FUN. I’ve been fortunate to work closely with Darlene Franklin with Mission Mortgage for the entire 22 years and she has been a Godsend to 100’s of my buyers by helping them get the lowest interest rate and closing costs as well advising them on credit issues and alternative lending programs. When it’s time for closing, we all wear feather boas and walk in to the closing to fun music, (Uptown Funk). If the closing is difficult emotionally, I try to soften it as much as possible so it goes without a hitch.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People seem to trust me and my expertise. The best way to support me is to be honest up front with any questions or concerns so we can resolve them moving forward.
