Hidden Gems: Meet Brendan Stouffer of Highland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brendan Stouffer.

Hi Brendan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in 8th grade when a family friend offered to sell me my first Canon T2I for a price that 14 year old could manage to afford. At the time, I must of nearly spent all the money I had, but fast forward to today and it was singly the best investment I ever made in myself. From 8th grade to college, I became obsessed with shooting and editing. It was fun, and it seemed as if the ceiling was limitless. No matter how many hours I put into it, there was always something to improve upon, learn, or try that I hadn’t done before. Because of this infinite feeling, I believe it is why I never felt satisfied, as if I could close the door on photography and move on to the next hobby. By the time I was at the end of high school, I had realized that I had gotten good enough at photo/video that I could start charging for it. In fact, one of my most popular paid youtube videos is from senior year of high school. Once I realized that I could make money doing what I loved at 17 years old, it pretty much painted the road from there. I’ve spent the last decade honing in on my skills, working in marketing roles in various industries ranging from high end sports cars, defense, and real estate. Now, however, I have evolved into a creative director role at Highland, a local haircare company, where I still use the original photo/video skills that launched my career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While the story seems sweet and easy, the road was bumpy. Imposter syndrome, questioning my choice of career, etc… all the typical motions of growing up and trying to find your place in the world. Even today these feelings come and go. It’s hard to feel good when you are always looking to improve and level up your work and career. But when you turn around and look back on the past, I would say every bump along the way was worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
