Hidden Gems: Meet Carlos Figueroa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Figueroa. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Carlos has been destroying his life ever since he got out of the Army in 2014. Becoming a severe alcoholic, to medicate his PTSD and depression, Carlos would find himself after 8 years of chronic drinking every single night, just fed up. He knew God had plans for him and he was tired of being so selfish. So, for many years he would pray for help with all this destruction, and sure enough, God answered most surprisingly.

Carlos would be admitted to the hospital on July 27, 2021, battling COVID-19. A couple of hours later, the doctors told his wife Valentina they would have to intubate him and put him on a ventilator, with a 7% chance of survival. Valentina and the family were devastated. Valentina and their daughter Mariavictoria being the prayer warriors they have always been, went to work and prayed like they had never prayed before. After a couple of weeks, around August 9, they told Valentina, that Carlos would not make it and to get ready to say goodbye to him.

Valentina refused to do any of the sort, so she said lord, I know you have plans for Carlos and I put all my trust and faith into you. So, the next day Valentina goes to the ICU and just starts praying and playing worship music next to his ears. She looks up and sees the presence of Angels in the room and knows God is about to do something. Minutes pass, and Carlos then starts convulsing uncontrollably, Valentina not knowing what’s going on and scared, the doctors rush in and yell at her, asking what she has done. Doctors couldn’t figure out how he was shaking, since he had been paralyzed since the beginning of his intubation.

They escorted her out of the ICU and said they would call her. A day passes, and she gets a phone call from the doctor saying, “I don’t know what you did, but Carlos is getting better, it’s a miracle. That was on August 10Th, Carlos opened his eyes on August 15th. Scared and not knowing where he was or what had happened to him, he just knew the lord was with him, especially where he was when he was not conscious. Let’s just say he was in a realm with some other beings. Even though he had woken up and the lungs were back on the road to recovery, the doctor had said that he would not be able to walk correctly for years, he would have a speech impediment, his mind would not function like before, and would be on oxygen for the rest of his life.

Carlos not knowing was the worst thing for him, he had thought he was paralyzed for life and would never walk again, but he was so tired of doing things his way, that he looked up to the heavens and said “Lord Jesus, I don’t care what happens to me, I’m always going to love you no matter what!” From that moment, he felt like life was given back fully to him. Carlos would ask a day later for a walker to start walking, not letting any moment pass by to better himself for God’s plans. Carlos would walk out of rehab on August 24th, being released due to his accelerated recovery, doctors were lost for words. God showed up and healed Carlos completely.

After that, he was inspired to give others hope and he now does that through the Nutrition store that he and his wife opened up in Colorado Springs called Nutrishop Colorado Springs. They also have started up a non-profit called Emunah Ministries International, helping poverty-stricken families in Altagracia, Colombia. They are starting to do local work as well with homelessness.
