Hidden Gems: Meet Cassie & Marshall Chernin of Records On Main

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie & Marshall Chernin.

Hi Cassie & Marshall, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Question: Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.

Marshall: After a successful career as an optician—eventually owning my own optical shop on New York City’s Upper East Side—I envisioned opening a record store as my next chapter. I’ve always been passionate about music and vinyl culture, and when we discovered an exceptional storefront opening on Main Street in downtown Littleton, Colorado, the timing felt perfect. It was the ideal opportunity to combine my entrepreneurial experience with my lifelong love of music and create something meaningful for the community.

Cassie: With over 12 years of experience in performance marketing and growth analytics, I’ve built my career specializing in digital strategy, customer acquisition, and lifecycle management across multiple industries. When my dad called in February 2025—coincidentally right after I’d been laid off from my previous role— and said that he was going to open a record store, it felt serendipitous. The opportunity to merge my marketing expertise with our shared passion for music, while building a community-centered business alongside my father, was something I couldn’t pass up. Records on Main has become the perfect intersection of my professional skills and personal values.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Question: Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Marshall: Not at all— we faced an unexpected and significant challenge. Just two weeks before our scheduled opening, I was involved in a serious motorcycle accident that left me in the ICU for two weeks, followed by a month-long hospital stay. It was devastating timing, but it revealed the strength and resilience of my family.

Cassie: Initially, my plan was to contribute remotely from Los Angeles, handling the buying and marketing operations while maintaining my life there. But when my dad’s accident happened, there wasn’t a question in my mind—I packed up, moved back to Denver, and committed myself fully to making sure we opened on time. My brother Denver and I worked around the clock to bring my dad’s vision to life.

Marshall: Watching from my hospital bed as Cassie and Denver executed the opening without me was bittersweet. Missing that milestone was heartbreaking, but seeing them rise to the occasion and successfully launch Records on Main filled me with immense pride. They turned what could have been a disaster into a triumph, and the store has been thriving ever since.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Cassie: The outpouring of support from both our personal community and the Littleton community at large has been nothing short of extraordinary. When my dad’s accident forced us to delay the opening, we faced the very real challenge of covering rent without any revenue coming in. We launched a Kickstarter campaign, and the response completely overwhelmed us—friends, family, neighbors, and even complete strangers rallied behind us. Their generosity and belief in what we were building allowed us to open just about a month behind schedule. That early support didn’t just help us financially; it showed us that Records on Main was already becoming something meaningful to people before we’d even unlocked the doors for the first time.
