Hidden Gems: Meet Crystal Mejia of CM & Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Mejia. 

Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Within the past few years, I’ve always imagined starting a small business involving design and creativity. However, I never saw the full vision for it, until two years ago when I was first exposed to the event industry. During that season, I was able to discover what I love doing most, which is wedding planning. As an intern at Clay venues, I was offered the opportunity to plan my first-ever styled shoot. My models for this shoot asked me if I could be their wedding day coordinator, and I was honored to even be asked this question. From there on, I knew I wanted to work directly with dream clients and make their dream day come to life, by planning one of the most important days of their lives and creating life long-lasting relationships. From that day on, that is when I knew my heart was fully invested in creating a dream business and making it a reality. With the help and support of my husband, mentors, friends, family, and coach, I successfully launched CM & Co as of January 2022. I was able to work with incredible planners and collaborate with them on weddings within this year alone, and it has been such a distinct honor to do so. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We can all agree that finding ourselves and what we want in life can be challenging with everyone’s journey looking different, and that’s perfectly okay. My experience of finding what I wanted to do in life took years of discovery. We grow and endure many trials and obstacles; but without it, what story would we tell others? Finding confidence in what I do as an Event Planner has been difficult from the very start. I always asked myself, am I good enough? Do I have the character and personality traits to take on this role and profession? Do I even know what I am doing? There were feelings of self-doubt that began to creep in. I knew that if I kept harping on myself in this way, it was not going to get me anywhere. That is when I decided to shift my perspective by having an open mind and giving myself more grace along the way. As business owners, we rely on bookings, sales, and obtaining clients in order to fulfill our goals. Sometimes there are slow seasons where we struggle to make it through the month, and those moments are hard on anyone. However, I’ve learned to continue to persevere in the tough times and to not surrender to my own feelings of self-doubt. Running a small business takes initiative, persistence, and self-motivation, but it also requires a good amount of patience. These are the things I have to remind myself daily. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Cm & Co offers Wedding & Event Planning services for clients in Colorado and nationwide. We offer a wide range of selective services, including but limited to, destination elopements, month of coordination, and partial planning services. We assist clients in planning their day in a variety of ways. From planning meetings, styling concepts, and design services, to vendor communication, timelines, and floor plans. We also assist with ceremony rehearsal and working the day of the event to make sure your day is running smoothly. As a planner & coordinator, we take the responsibility in ensuring the event is meeting the client’s expectations and aligns with their vision, while at the same time eliminating the stressors of having a successful event. We are also there to face any roadblocks or address any concerns before, during, and after the event. 

We love being able to use our creative freedom to help couples bring visions they have dreamed of, but may not know exactly where to start. As an Event Planning business, we are able to share knowledge and expertise, in order to assist clients in reaching their goals. Whether it’s choosing color palettes, creating a mood board, or how to piece together wedding invitations. 

As a service provider, we are proud to share that CM & Co offers a la carte of services for intimate events and micro weddings. We love the thought of the client sharing their moment and day with their closest friends and family. We plan with intention, and pay attention to the finer details throughout the planning process while assisting them in finding the best vendors that fit their needs. 

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
This year I was able to work alongside various planners and coordinate weddings for them, but there is one in particular who has been a great teacher along the way. I would love to give a shoutout to Hannah Poole at Hannah Kathryn Events, who I’ve had the great honor of working and learning alongside with. 

My dear husband Michael, who always cheers me on through the ups and downs of owning a small business. As well as my family & friends who always find ways to support me and promote my business to others.
