Today we’d like to introduce you to David Kon.
Hi David , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in Colorado started with skiing and hiking as a kid—I fell in love with the mountains and the sense of freedom they offered. That passion for the outdoors naturally led me to the University of Colorado in Boulder, where I earned my BS in Business Administration with a focus on Information Systems from the Leeds School of Business. After college, I began my career in technology consulting as a technology risk consultant, developing expertise in managing risks across various sectors. From there, I spent over a decade in data and technology roles at institutional asset managers, culminating as Chief Data Officer at NISA Investment Advisors, overseeing data strategies for a $500+ billion pension manager. Along the way, I also enhanced collaboration technologies at a leading hospitality and resorts company, broadening my experience in scalable systems.
The spark for WealthFluent came from personal frustration. As a finance enthusiast with a complex portfolio, I struggled with clunky spreadsheets, high-fee advisors, and generic platforms that couldn’t handle my unique goals or market dynamics. My father, Stanley J. Kon, PhD—a finance professor and author of books like “Do-It-Yourself Wealth Management” and co-author of “Lifetime Holistic Financial Planning and Wealth Management”—ignited my passion for reimagining wealth planning. His expertise, combined with my tech background and my brother Joshua’s contributions, led us to co-found WealthFluent. We bootstrapped it from our own needs, building an AI-powered platform for holistic lifetime wealth planning, portfolio optimization, risk management, and monitoring—aligned with our philosophy that emphasizes holistic decision-making, market value balance sheets for all assets and liabilities including pensions, annuities, and Social Security, and personalized tools without one-size-fits-all limitations.
Today, as CEO, I’m proud that WealthFluent empowers everyday investors to manage their finances independently, without gatekeepers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s had plenty of challenges, but plenty of fun too. Being bootstrapped at first, followed by a small raise, meant we had to be super efficient with every dollar—stretching resources while building out the platform. I’m obsessed with efficiency anyway, so staying lean has been a blast in its own way. It forced us to prioritize what matters most, like delivering real value without the bloat you see in bigger operations. Also a family business with my brother and father. Which is awesome, but quite challenging too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
WealthFluent is an independent software platform for financial health, holistic lifetime wealth planning, portfolio optimization, risk management, and monitoring. Our mission is to empower everyday people with tools that make interconnected financial decisions possible—treating your entire portfolio, goals, and market conditions as one system, not isolated parts. It’s all about seeing your finances as one connected picture—no silos. We use a market value balance sheet that includes everything: stocks, pensions, social security, even human capital. It’s not pushy advice; it’s tools to empower you or your planner to make decisions that fit your life.
We specialize in holistic financial tools that make complex stuff simple. We’re known for treating your whole financial life as interconnected—assets, liabilities, goals, and market vibes all in one go. We help folks optimize portfolios dynamically, avoid common traps, and plan for the long haul. Not an advisor, just a flexible platform for individuals, families, or pros to team up. We’re big on real-world adaptability, like handling uncertainty and path-dependent risks. As CEO and co-founder, my background as Chief Data Officer at a $500B pension manager, plus decades in finance, data, software development, and tech, makes me perfectly suited for this—I’ve seen institutional-level challenges up close.
What makes us different? We’re all about true holistics—no ignoring illiquid stuff like annuities or real estate. Most tools are generic with high fees; we give you a full market value balance sheet, personalized to your goals and market conditions. We’re independent, so no biases, and we tackle behavioral stuff, governance, and durability under stress. It’s like having top-firm tech in your pocket, adaptable to life changes. Others do bits and pieces; we connect it all.
Brand-wise, I’m super proud of how WealthFluent empowers regular people with pro-level tools. We’ve turned deep concepts—like lifetime decision frameworks and avoiding sequencing errors—into something easy and actionable. Our vibe is trust, innovation, and real personalization: No high fees, just helping you build durable plans that handle uncertainty. It’s awesome seeing users gain confidence for things like retirement or legacy planning. We’re about financial fluency for all, and that impact? That’s gold.
Readers, know this: WealthFluent is your go-to for smart, interconnected wealth management. Our brand screams empowerment—holistic planning that factors in everything from human capital to market risks. Offerings include full balance sheets, dynamic optimization, risk tools, and monitoring, all tailored to you. We’re flexible for solo users or with planners, focusing on durability over quick wins. No advisory fluff; just clear decisions for your unique path. Let’s make your finances fluent!
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
