Hidden Gems: Meet Emma Halet of Emma Halet Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Halet.

Hi Emma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
How I got started in wedding photography is kind of a wild story. Growing up, I didn’t have much patience for art. But when I started high school, I needed a full year of an art class to graduate. I chose photography because, to me, it sounded like “fast art”—something I could do in 15 or 20 minutes and move on with my day.

What I didn’t expect was to be naturally good at it. My very first assignment sparked accusations of plagiarism from classmates—they thought my photos were too good. That’s when I realized I might have found something special.

I fell in love with photography during that freshman year and ended up studying it in college. Right after graduating, I dove into weddings and launched Emma Halet Photography in 2018.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say my journey into wedding photography was fairly smooth. I was lucky to have a solid foundation—both of my parents are freelancers, so they helped me set up my business the right way, making sure everything was legal and professional from the start.

Beyond that, I jumped in and worked with as many photographers as I could, assisting on wedding days to learn the real-world do’s and don’ts. It was the best way to understand how to give clients an amazing experience from start to finish.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a wedding and elopement photographer, and unlike some in the industry, I genuinely enjoy helping my clients through the wedding planning process. I provide “how-to” guides, curated vendor recommendations, and anything else they might need to feel supported every step of the way.

I pour everything I have into each couple to make sure they feel cared for—and that connection often lasts well beyond the wedding day. Most of my couples become lifelong clients, coming back for family photos year after year. My longest-standing couple is from my very first year in 2018, which I think speaks to the level of care and attention I bring to both the planning process and the wedding day itself.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I like to call myself a “50/50” girl. I love the hustle and bustle of city life—walking to coffee shops, grabbing groceries just down the street, and having everything right at my fingertips. But I equally love escaping into nature, where there’s no cell service and I can really ground myself.

I think that balance shows in my work. You’ll usually find me shooting either in the heart of downtown or truly in the middle of nowhere.
